Adam Lever is the secondary antagonist of Season 2's second half for the Amazon Prime original series Just Add Magic. He's a councilman who served as Terri Quinn's competitor for the Saffron Falls mayor campaign, who's not afraid to get his hands dirty or personally attack the candidate during his attempts to win the campaign.
He was portrayed by Bob Stephenson.
Why Do We Hate Him?[]
- In a series filled with a complex, three-dimensional, or cool anti-villains, Adam Lever has the (dis)honor of being the sole antagonist of the series without a sympathetic past, valid excuse for his actions, honor among his foes, or pretty much any Evil Is Cool factors about him. He's just a power hungry candidate who wants to be the next mayor of the town, and very little else.
- He also was never a protector, making him a realistic antagonist, which just makes him more detestable as people like him exist in real life, unlike any of the ex-protector antagonists.
- While posing as a reasonable rival, he makes a deal with Terri Quinn about how the two of them would run clean campaigns, claiming that despite their differences, they both loved Saffron Falls and wanted to set a good example for their kids, even though this is clearly not true for Lever.
- Even before revealing his scummy personality, he deliberately underpays an order he makes at P's (a dollar short) and refuses to give her the full payment.
- As a candidate for mayor he stood for everything Terri was against. He was willing to bulldoze part of downtown Saffron Falls, and turn it into a giant outdoor mall. Plus when Mama P confronts him over not telling her about the mall that would potentially put her out of business, he claims he would tell her about it, despite that clearly not being true. He also blackmails Mama P into finding dirt on Terri, in exchange for potentially expanding her restaurant at his mall, bribing her by saying the mall would be 10,000 square ft.
- He had a student close to him spy on Terri Quinn's daughter Kelly at school, snap some photos and send them to his campaign, so he could post an mockery article on his official campaign website (about Kelly accidentally tossing a plastic bottle into the trash rather than the recycling and ending up in detention) as an attempt to make Terri look unfit to be mayor, by saying she can't manage her own daughter, let alone Saffron Falls. Granted, Kelly was under a spell that made everyone pay a large amount of attention to her every move, but still. This quickly showcased that Adam had no intention of running a fair competition, or keeping up with his end of the deal.
- When he encounters Terri, he tries to apologize for the post about Kelly, and claims he didn't authorize it and that he'd fire who posted the post, only for Terri to instantly call out his bluff saying he approved it, and Adam would flat out admit that he really wanted to be mayor and would do whatever he could to get there. This marks the point where Terri officially stopped viewing him as a friendly rival and competitively wanted to beat him... fairly of course.
- Upon finding out about a yoga studio Terri had, but later closed when she went back to school to get her masters, Adam Lever claimed online that the studio failed, and that she wasn't fit to be a leader, just to demonize her.
- Despite already having endorsements of several the most influential people in Saffron Falls (i.e.: Bob Ellison and Macy Goldman), Lever was furious over Mayor Davies supporting Terri Quinn to be the next mayor, reminding Mama P that she was supposed to "work her magic", and being impatient. Plus accused Ida of trying to get out of their deal and threatened to shut her place down by claiming a rat infestation and sending the health department after her, if she tried to double-cross him.
- According to Jill/Caroline, he once closed the public pool for his son's birthday party during a heat wave and cut down a 100-year old oak tree to expand his driveway.
- While under the effects of the Bitter Truth Truffles (which made him unable to lie), he tells Terri straight to her face that he hoped she lost.
- During the debate (still under the truth spell), he admitted that he wouldn't know what to do if he had to stop crime, and he suggested that every family and every household got themselves an alarm system.
- He supported year-round school, as he thought summer camps cost a fortune
- He claimed that the best part about being mayor in his opinion was the perks, such as never having to pay for a parking ticket again.
- Near the end of the debate, he recalled that Terri was the preservation candidate and used a dirty secret against her (with outside help from Mama P) about how she once started a successful petition to tear down the old main library for an outdoor music stage, and didn't reveal this to the public. This would also take advantage of her inability to lie, and damage her reputation.
- He also revealed that Mama P was spying for him, which would get the girl trio, Jake, Terri and her close ones angry at P for betraying Terri and lead them all to turn on her, even though they were unaware that Adam was blackmailing her. Then after he truth spell was lifted, he gave Terri an insincere apology for ruining her publicity.
- When he catches Ida, Becky and Gina snooping around his office, and asks if they were looking for anything and he tells them that he had no intention of actually living up of his promises as mayor and that he had a reporter trash Terri to make himself look better. Although his message was secretly recorded by Mama P and sent to the news resulting in everyone turning on Adam and him getting disqualified from the election.
