King Aerys II Targaryen, also known as the Mad King, Aerys the Mad, and King Scab, is one of the two overarching antagonists of the fantasy drama television series Game of Thrones.
He was portrayed by David Rintoul.
What Makes Him Hated?[]
- He was a mad king who executed women and children while laughing
- It is mentioned more than once that he raped his wife-sister.
- He mocked Tyvin and took out Ilan Payne's tongue only because he spoke well of Tyvin.
- Began Robert's Rebellion after his son, Rhaegar Targaryen kidnaps Lyanna Stark.
- He executes Ned Stark's father and brother who came to speak to him respectfully.
- After Tywin enters King's Landing and slaughters his army, he orders Jamie to bring his father's head.
- He also orders Rossart to blow up the entire city, though Jamie stops his attempt.
- His actions caused exile for his entire household and caused his sons to go into exile.
- Even his daughter Daenerys confesses that her father was an evil king.
- Unlike the book version, it is not mentioned that he has a tragedy or regret for his actions and he is taken completely seriously in the series.
