I'm an evil person. I think that's the only difference between you and me. Hey Mr. Seizaki. Do you think it's impossible for people who like dogs and people who like cats to be compatible? I don't think so. If we understand each other, I'm sure we'll be able to understand the charm. We're the same. There are people who like good things, and people who like bad things. That's the only difference, the one and only difference. So, Mr. Seizaki, think about it. I want you to think about why I'm doing things like this. And I want you to understand. I don't want you to think there's no meaning to it just because an evil person is doing it. I don't want you to think that a good person couldn't understand. There's a meaning to evil. But I know it's selfish of me to say I want you to understand that soon. It's because you've been raised in a good society surrounded by good things. You're a good person through and through Mr. Seizaki. You've never thought about something bad right? You have no idea what evil is, right? So please thinking about it today. Please try confronting evil for the first time in your life.
~ Magase explaining her warped philosophy while killing Zen Seizaki's assistant, Sekuro, in front of him.
In the game, I become the hero. The hero rises up against the devil who took over the world, together with a small group of friends, or sometimes even alone, in order to save the world and bring happiness to the people. But none of the people the devil rules over try to rise up against him, even though the hero is risking his life to save the world. The hero still tries to save the world. Even if no one helps him. Even if no one understands him. Just to bring happiness to the people. Mr. Seizaki, I want to become a person like that.
~ Magase explaining her twisted reasons why she wants the suicide law get passed to Zen Seizaki.

Ai Magase (曲世 愛 Magase Ai) is the main antagonist of Mado Nozaki's novel series Babylon, as well as its manga and anime adaptations.

She is a mysterious yet beautiful woman who manipulates several powerful figures who got involved in the "Shiniki Initiative Conspiracy" by disguising herself as several beautiful women to do her bidding. Befitting the "Whore of Babylon" theme, Ai Magase is a warped individual who intends to sow the seeds of chaos across the world, starting by manipulating one of Shiniki's mayoral candidates, Kaika Itsuki, to legitimize suicide law, a law that is considered taboo even for Japanese people. She is also the archenemy of the protagonist of the anime, Prosecutor Zen Seizaki, due to her being responsible for his apprentice's death and her willingness to ruin Seizaki's life as much as possible.

She was voiced by Satsuki Yukino in Japanese, and by Maggie Flecknoe in English.

What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]

  • When discovering that the Shiniki Initiative conspiracy is testing new laws to build a new nation and bring prosperity to humanity, she decided to disguise herself as several women and become a willing prostitute towards the powerful figures that were involved in the Shiniki Initiative Conspiracy in order to further her plans to cause chaos and mischief across the world.
  • She manipulated 60 people to commit suicide by jumping from the Shiniki City Hall building in order to show how the suicide law can bring prosperity to other people.
  • The fact that she has the thinking that by passing the suicide law, she is "becoming a hero and saving people and making them happy," when it is nothing more than a delusional belief. This can also be mixed with hypocrisy, as she later admits that she is evil and likes to kill (when she dismembers Sekuro) leaving her belief of being "a hero" as a lie that she does not believe in, and that she is just a psychopathic sadist.
  • It is never fully explained how she possesses the ability to induce other people to commit suicide, leaving her as a character who is powerful without meaning or even questioning whether she is human or not.
  • She lies blatantly on several occasions. Like in the interrogation when she tells Seizaki that Emiko Hiramatsu is her real name; and like when she talks to the president of the United States, Alexander W. Wood, disguised as Kanae Kuyo, creating a false tragic backstory just to be able to manipulate him and induce him to commit suicide.
  • She gleefully tortured Zen Seizaki's assistant, Sekuro, by chopping off her limbs with an axe while streaming and forcing Seizaki to watch her do it to drive him insane. She then killed Sekuro by chopping off her head. All this while calmly explaining a philosophy of good and evil. This was considered the most disturbing scene in the entire anime and what makes it her most despicable.
  • She received NO comeuppances for her crimes which infuriates the audience. In the end, she was shown to be encountered by Zen Seizaki's son, implying that she is willing to hurt children as well.
  • The fact that throughout the series she plays with Seizaki's life and is slowly destroying him psychologically by causing all his loved ones to die, including the fact that she has not paid for any of her crimes, are two reasons that make it despicable.
