Alexander Chau and Ophelia Chau are minor antagonists in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
They are the parents of Juliet Chau and Gaius Chau, and the former rulers of the Fox Territory, making them the Baron and Baroness of Cogs. They are the source of the Cog slave trade, and the oldest Baron family in the Badlands.
Alexander was portrayed by Hon Ping Tang and Ophelia was portrayed by Liz Sutherland.
What Makes Them Hated?[]
- They are the rulers of the Fox Territory, and as Barons they are guilty of both merciless killings and rape by proxy due to them owning sex slaves known as Dolls. Furthermore, they are even worse than other Barons due to their main resource being the Cog slave trade itself.
- They raise their children to be merciless tyrants like them, leading to Juliet's cruel and sadistic nature.
- When Minerva first came to the Fox Territory, she was extremely rebellious, leading to the Chau family to lock her in isolation for months, until she finally broke down and became an obedient Cog.
- When Minerva drops a tray of glasses on Gaius' birthday, Alexander orders Gaius to beat her with a cane. When Gaius refuses, Alexander has Juliet beat Minerva instead.
- Alexander proceeds to lock Minerva in the pig box as a further punishment just for the sake of cruelty.
- When Gaius and Tilda are looking for the Widow, they incorrectly assume Juliet had kidnapped her and confront Ophelia on Juliet's location. Ophelia proceeds to mock Gaius over his friendship with Tilda, since she is a former Cog.
- Tilda proceeds to call out Ophelia on all the suffering she has caused, at which point Ophelia claims that she sheds no tears, as she believes the weak deserve to die.
- When Gaius pulls out his sword and demands to know where his sister is hiding, Ophelia demands that he not back down and kill her, but he can't bring himself to do it.
- Gaius' half-brother Daegan ends up telling them where Juliet is hiding, at which point Ophelia threatens to feed his tongue to the pigs before she is promptly killed by Tilda.
