♫When's your tramp of a mother gonna choose a new husband? Why don't you open her room so we can have fun with her?♫ (Telemachus: ♫Don't you DARE call my Mother a tramp!♫) I just did. Whatcha gonna do about it, champ?
~ Antinous taunting Telemachus by insulting his mother, while also foreshadowing his attempted rape of her.
♫Hold him down, till the boy stops shaking. Hold him down, while I slit his throat. Hold him down, while I slowly break his pride, his trust, his faith and his BONES!♫
~ Antinous plots to kill Telemachus.

Antinous of Ithaca is the secondary antagonist of EPIC: The Musical. He is a suitor out to marry Penelope in order to become king, believing Odysseus to be long dead. In his attempts to do so, though, his impatience gives way to his true nature - a vile and monstrous excuse for a human being.

He was voiced by Ayron Alexander.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • His introduction immediately has him call Penelope a "tramp", while suggesting Telemachus allow him and the other suitors to go into her room and rape her, taunting him in a cruel and sadistic fashion.
  • Goading him into a fight, Antinous brutally beats Telemachus in spite of him clearly not being particularly skilled in fighting, only ultimately getting hit when Athena intervenes.
  • Upon beating Telemachus, he coldly tells him to cry in a corner and "make sure [his] mother hears", in order to show her what will happen if she continues delaying remarrying.
  • When Penelope designs a challenge to see who can win her hand and everyone fails miserably, Antinous comes up with a disgusting plan to brutally kill Telemachus and horrifically gang-rape Penelope simply because they're unable to string Odysseus's bow.
  • His death via Odysseus shooting/stabing him in the throat is incredibly cathartic, along with quick and undignified, showing even the story believes he doesn't deserve anything more than being quickly killed off.
  • Ultimately, he shows Athena to be completely right about him and the suitors - nothing more than dogs and bullies with small, unfeeling hearts.
  • His role in the story is to show that humanity can be just as bad as the supernatural entities that Odysseus faced up until that point and to show how dangerous Odysseus is once he's ruthless.
  • While there are plenty of characters that were unfair victims of Odysseus' ruthlessness like Astyanax, the Sirens, the remaining 42 crew members, potentially some of the suitors (like Eurymachus who tried to offer peace after Antinous died), and even Poseidon, Antinous is far from one of them.
  • Out of all the major villains in the musical, he’s the only one to lack any sympathetic aspect or redeeming qualities. Even Poseidon, despite being mainly motivated by his pride, still cares for his son Polyphemus, while Antinous implicitly planned to kill the other suitors when they outlived their usefulness.

Trivia[]

  • He's the only Hate Sink in EPIC: The Musical, as he's essentially the only character with a fleshed-out personality to not have any sort of Evil is Cool moment, with even his quick and unceremonious death reflecting this.
