Antonia Chillingsworth is the main antagonist of the animated Chronicles of Riddick short, Dark Fury. She is an extremely wealthy woman who has used her riches to acquire her own spaceship and private army of mercenaries for capturing criminals.

What makes her a Hate Sink?[]

  • She cryogenically freezes all the criminals she captures, placing them in a form of suspended animation where it takes an entire day for them to even blink. They are still fully conscious and are doomed to remain like this for centuries in a state that is referred to in-universe as a fate worse than death. She does this as some kind of fetish she has with turning criminals into living ice statues to create "art". What makes this even worse is that she has another form of cryogenically freezing beings, which she uses on her men and captured beasts when she does not currently need them, and it's implied that this method does not leave them conscious. She insists on having her captured criminals conscious for the process as part of her fetish.
  • She has no care for her mercenaries, noting that they were overpaid since they couldn't live up to her expectations and got killed trying to capture Riddick. While she does at first seem to have a good relationship with her chief of security and right hand man, Junner, this is later shown to be hollow when she steps on his toes for questioning her orders to release all her men and a monster that could kill them as well as Riddick.
  • She forces Riddick to surrender by having Junner threaten to kill Kyra, who is posing as a teenage boy named Jack. This means that she has no problem with killing innocent bystanders who are still considered minors. It can also be inferred that she would have killed Kyra and Imam (another innocent bystander) anyway since she had no use for them.
  • Before freezing her victims, she forces them to fight against her captured beasts in a gladiator arena to test their skill and see if they live up to their reputations. She has Kyra and Imam thrown into the arena as well so Riddick is forced to defend them as well as himself.
  • When Riddick manages to tick her off and she decides that he's more trouble than he's worth, she decides to just kill him, Kyra, and Imam.
  • Riddick himself, despite being a borderline sociopath and a hardened killer with only a handful of redeeming qualities, calls her out on how sick and twisted she is, making it clear that she is meant to be seen as a psychotic monster by the audience.
  • Overall, she has no redeeming qualities and is despised and considered a monster even by hardened killers. Her fascination with turning criminals into living ice statues to create "art" is treated as a sick fetish, and she is so gross and evil, that the normally innocent and hopeful Kyra has no hesitation in killing her or lingering unease afterward.
  • Because of Kyra killing her, Riddick takes it as a sign that she's starting to become like him and abandons her to keep her from becoming a criminal like him. In other words, it's because of her that Riddick abandons Kyra.

Trivia[]

  • Her name is not mentioned in the film's dialogue. Even the subtitles simply refer to her as "Woman". Her last name is listed in the credits, while her first name is mentioned in the DVD bonus features.
