Fire Lord Azulon, simply known as Azulon, is a posthumous antagonist in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
He was the Fire Lord directly preceding his son Ozai as well as the father of Iroh, the son of Sozin and the grandfather of Zuko, Azula, and Lu Ten.
He was voiced by the late Walker Edmiston.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Despite his short time on screen, he proves to be vindictive, sadistic and megalomaniacal.
- He ordered to capture the waterbenders of the Southern Water Tribe, imprisoning them in a state of torture until death, again showing how sadistic he is.
- This caused Hama, the only survivor who managed to escape, to become very vengeful and use bloodbending to attack, torture and imprison innocent people who had nothing to do with her suffering.
- He was responsible for Yon Rha murdering Kya.
- His abysmal parenting and blatant favoritism of Iroh over Ozai ended up leading Ozai down the path of villainy, thus making him partly responsible for many of Ozai's atrocities. While this does not absolve Ozai of what he's done, it does help to push the point of just how detestable Azulon is.
- Although he forced Ursa to marry Ozai to create a lineage of powerful firebenders through the bloodlines of both Roku and Sozin, he showed no care for Zuko and Azula.
- Even when Azula (who bears his name) displayed impressive firebending, he didn't give any reaction.
- He was willing to order Ozai to kill Zuko when Ozai tried to take Iroh's place as heir.
- His death by poisoning is karmic and well deserved for all the pain and suffering he caused in the war.
- Unlike his son Ozai, he has very few if any Evil is Cool moments and he is an incredibly abhorrent character.
