~ Carver taunts Kenny and Rebecca, also his last words. |
William "Bill" Carver, more commonly known as simply Carver, is the main antagonist of the first half of Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season Two, as well as a posthumous antagonist in the other games (excluding Michonne). He is the ruthless leader of a community that organizes in a hardware store named Howe's Hardware. He is one of the archenemies of Clementine and Kenny.
He was voiced by Michael Madsen.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- It's implied that he and his group were responsible for the massacre at the river, which would make him responsible for Pete's death as he gets bit by a walker.
- Torturing Carlos in front of his daughter Sarah, breaking his fingers while also threatening to slit his throat. He'll even beat his face to a bloody pulp if Clem goes outside looking for Kenny.
- Executing Walter with a headshot in retaliation for Kenny sniping Johnny. It's also very likely that Carver only really cares about Johnny's death because he just lost a valuable soldier rather than a true friend since he doesn't even mention Johnny once later.
- Regardless of the player's choices, he's responsible for Alvin's death:
- If Kenny shoots Carver at the end of episode 2, he'll then kill Alvin by shooting him in the head as he gets up off the floor.
- On the other hand, if Alvin survives episode 2, Carver will torture him to a bloody pulp in episode 3, resulting in him being too hurt to run and thus sacrificing himself to buy Clem time to escape later on anyway.
- If Clem surrenders early, Carver forces Kenny's surrender too by holding her at gunpoint although she's just an 11-year-old.
- On the other hand, if Clem goes outside looking for Kenny and lets him shoot Carver (which results in Alvin's death), he'll force them to surrender anyway by holding Sarita at gunpoint.
- Running Howe's Hardware like a concentration camp with forced labor.
- Forcing Carlos to hit Sarah (who's not only just 15 years old but also very mentally ill) to punish the latter for talking out of turn. When Carlos tries to comfort his daughter afterwards, Carver stops him from doing so and instead tells him to just let her sit there and think about what she did.
- Throwing Reggie off the roof to his death for failing to pick enough berries.
- Hoping to mold Clementine into a Darwinistic monster like himself.
- Beating up Luke for trying to steal food, which still hurts his ribs in the next episode.
- Smashing in Kenny's left eyeball with a walkie-talkie, rendering him half-blind with the likely brain damage attributing to his breakdown later on in the season. He even mocks Kenny about this in his final moments before death.
- After the deed is done, he decides to teach the rest of the group a lesson by denying them any supper the following night.
- Holding the group hostage when they try to escape Howe's, stating that he'd sooner put a bullet in both Rebecca and her baby before letting her leave again with his child.
- In the same scene where this happens, Carver will shoot Clem in the back of the head if she takes too long to shoot or jump on him, resulting in a non-canon game over.
- If Clem stays to watch Carver die, his last words to Rebecca (which is shown in the above quote) basically confirms he raped Rebecca, thus resulting in Alvin Junior.
Trivia[]
- He's so hated as a person by the Walking Dead fandom that over 70% of players chose to have Clem watch Kenny literally beat Carver's face off with a crowbar. Even the players that didn't watch just wanted to preserve Clem's innocence and prove Carver wrong about him and Clem being the same, otherwise agreeing that Carver's death was completely deserved.
- According to Michael Madsen, he states Carver was meant to be an extremist. However, since this is based off of his opinion, and that the screenwriters still intended him to be hated, Carver still qualifies to be a Hate Sink.
