Bill Hawks is the overarching antagonist of the third game in the Professor Layton trilogy, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.
Why Do We Hate Him?[]
- He ignores the warnings of Dimitri Allen, the game's secondary antagonist, when the latter discovered a flaw in his time machine's design for the sole purpose of Bill's greed.
- Bill accepted a deal from a shady corporation to sell Dimitri's time machine designs, provided a test was run.
- Bill chooses to run the time machine experiment on Professor Layton's sweetheart, Claire, who was Dimitri's assistant. The experiment, while successful for a brief second, ends in a failure with Claire being killed in the process.
- In addition to Claire, ten other people in the apartment building next door including the parents of The Unwound Future's main antagonist, Clive... all because of Bill's greed.
- In the aftermath of the explosion, Bill sells the designs for the time machine and used the tragedy to gain political influence, thus becoming the United Kingdom's prime minister.
- Bill's actions were the motivating force behind Clive and Dimitri's actions as Dimitri wants to go back in time to save Claire, because he was in love with her too, while Clive wanted to avenged the deaths of his parents.
- While he did get taken hostage, given all of the atrocities he committed and profited from, it's hard to feel sorry for him.
- At the end of the game, while both Dimitri and Clive seek to atone for their crimes, Bill has Clive arrested for almost destroying London while claiming "Criminals like him make the world go mad. Despicable, just despicable", despite being the one who put Clive in that situation in the first place.
- In the end, Bill gets away with his crimes while Clive loses his parents, Dimitri loses his life's work, and Professor Layton loses the love of his life.
