~ Bill Williamson to John Marston. |
Marion "Bill" Williamson is a major antagonist the 2010 action-adventure video game Red Dead Redemption and a major character in its 2018 prequel Red Dead Redemption 2. He is a former U.S. Army soldier, member of the Van der Linde gang, and later the leader of his own gang and the former friend turned enemy of Arthur Morgan and John Marston.
He was voiced by Steve J. Palmer.
What Make Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He is extremely belligerent, rude and violent, which stems from serious anger issues.
- He can be especially aggressive and vicious when drunk.
- He is generally crude and nasty toward his fellow Van der Linde gang members and bullies those with less power, especially Kieran Duffy and Lenny Summers.
- He holds racist views, being strongly discriminated against Native Americans and also showing this in his bullying of Lenny and drunkenly picking a fight with Javier Escuella.
- He is quite sadistic, gleefully torturing Kieran (i.e. trying to castrate him) and laughing when one of his men shoots John.
- He is noticeably stupid and reckless, which also makes him a laughingstock among the Van der Linde gang.
- Before joining the Van der Linde gang, he was dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Army for attempted murder and deviancy.
- He turns against John Marston and Arthur Morgan to side with Dutch van der Linde and Micah Bell, even after Dutch goes insane and Micah is revealed to be the rat.
- After the dissolution of the Van der Linde gang, he entirely subverts any sort of kindness and sympathetic qualities he once had and becomes nothing more than a barbarous, sadistic outlaw that continues to commit atrocities with a gang of his own:
- He and his gang commit a massacre at Ridgewood Farm, killing the men and assaulting/raping the women.
- They burn down a ranch and kidnap, brutally beat and try to hang Bonnie MacFarlane, an innocent farmer.
- He escapes justice by fleeing to Mexico, where he works as a hitman for the brutal dictator Agustin Allende until John hunts him down.
- He proves to be a disloyal coward during his confrontation with John, preferring to taunt and send his men after him over directly fighting him and will never battle John unless from a distance and backed by his army. He opts to flee with Allende and leave his men to fight for him, only to be betrayed and get his just deserts.
Trivia[]
- He is a rare example of a Hate Sink having a page on the Heroes Wiki. Although giving his almost wholly unhinged and hostile attitude to people around, he hardly can be called a one, not to mention that he ended up being an antagonist.
