Black Zetsu was a member of the Akatsuki. It was revealed to be one of the right-hands to Obito Uchiha along with White Zetsu until it was later revealed that it was Madara Uchiha's right-hand. However, it was revealed that Black Zetsu was the evil creation of Princess Kaguya Otsutsuki who has been manipulating ninja history for centuries including his manipulation of both Obito Uchiha and Madara Uchiha. Black Zetsu wanted to revive Kaguya Otsutsuki and support her in her agenda to transform all of humanity into an army of White Zetsus against the Otsutsuki clan. Black Zetsu is a major antagonist of the Naruto anime and manga series.
What Makes It Hated?[]
- For centuries, Black Zetsu manipulated ninja histories to start wars and conflicts that cost many people's lives. Black Zetsu also perpetuated conflicts between the sons of Hagoromo Otsutsuki by manipulating Indra Otsutsuki.
- Black Zetsu forged the tablet of the Sage of the Six Paths in hopes of manipulating an Uchiha who would awaken the rinnegan into reviving the Ten-Tails and set in motion Zetsu's plan to revive Kaguya Otsutsuki.
- It had no care for the amount of death, destruction, and tragedies it caused for centuries. Black Zetsu sees itself above the ninjas that it manipulated and took joy in the fact that it manipulated ninja history.
- Black Zetsu pretended to be Madara's right hand. When Madara succeeded in implementing the Infinite Tsukyomi in his attempt to stop ceaseless wars, Black Zetsu promptly betrays Madara. Black Zetsu ridicules and mocks Madara for being a pawn like Obito Uchiha. Black Zetsu proceeded to have Madara absorb all chakra from all living beings on the planet to painfully make him into Kaguya's vessel.
- After betraying Madara and reviving Kaguya, Black Zetsu revealed a more cocky, arrogant, and condescending attitude and personality from its previous stoic demeanor.
- When Obito Uchiha was dying after saving Kakashi Hatake and Naruto Uzumaki from Kaguya's attack, Black Zetsu took the moment to lash out and insult Obito as another pawn at an attempt to mock the latter although Obito was trying to recompense for his past evil acts.
- Unlike Nagato, Obito, and Madara who either wanted world peace or to stop the cycle of war, hatred, and suffering, Black Zetsu's motives and goals had no good intentions for humanity. Black Zetsu intended on having all the people Madara trapped in the Infinite Tsukyomi technique transform into White Zetsus to be used as Kaguya's army against other Otsutsuki clan members who wanted to steal her chakra for themselves.
- When Black Zetsu was defeated by Naruto, it spent its final moments trying to insult Naruto by saying he was only a tiny part of the ninja history Black Zetsu manipulated. However, Naruto counter that statement saying that the ninja history is through the lives and deaths of every shinobi, and Black Zetsu is nothing more than a snot-nosed brat, who is too afraid to leave his mother’s side. Black Zetsu does not take its defeat with any dignity and is last seen screaming and panicking in a helpless manner as it was sealed away in another celestial body for an indefinite amount of time.
