~ Blaire trying to appease Laura on Facebook. |
Blaire Lily is the main villainous protagonist of the 2014 horror film Unfriended. While at first she initially seems like she's set up to be the final girl of the movie, the truth gets revealed as Laura Barns' ghost picks her and her friends off one by one.
She was portrayed by Shelley Hennig.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink[]
- Partakes in the cyberbullying of her own best friend Laura Barns, thus driving her to suicide. She even smiled while filming and posting an embarrassing video Laura soiling herself.
- Despite her own role in Laura's death, she hypocritically calls Ken Smith a bully.
- Attempts to lie her way out of the consequences once the truth gets revealed that she had sex with Adam Sewell behind her boyfriend (and his best friend) Mitch Roussel's back.
- Directly gets Adam killed by revealing her note despite Adam's refusal to sell her out.
- Tells Laura that Mitch posted the video to save her own skin, resulting in his death.
- She is given multiple chances to get Laura's ghost to leave her and her friends alone by simply confessing her. She never does thus resulting in the deaths of both her and her friends.
- In addition to her hate ability, Blaire also shows genuine stupidity and incompetence throughout Unfriended's runtime. (Granted that it makes her somewhat laughable to the audience but still) Some highlights include:
- Doesn’t seem to know how to use a computer and has no idea what a "troll" is. She even keeps her screen-share open during private conversations with Mitch.
- Crashing Jess' mother's car while drunk.
- Randomly putting down one of her fingers during "Never Have I Ever" despite Laura not asking her anything.
- Revealing what's on the note she received in an attempt to keep Mitch on the Skype call, rather than trying to use a loophole via lying or simply saying what it says.
- Overall, while nobody in the movie is a good person (not to mention Adam forced a girl he roofied to get an abortion), Blaire still stands out due to her overall cowardice, dimwittedness, and sociopathy.
- Moreover, despite being the protagonist, her supposed death was 100% deserved by Laura. And ironically, despite that Laura herself was portrayed as the main antagonist, her killings of Blaire's friends were completely justified and had actually performed a good deed by saving a young boy from drowning.
