Brett Breyer and Burke Breyer, also known as the Breyer Brothers or The Breyers, are supporting antagonists in the 2019 DC Extended Universe superhero film Shazam! and minor antagonists in its 2023 sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
They are two jerkish brothers and local bullies who like to torment Freddy Freeman and sometimes his foster family. However, their bullish ways come to a moderated end once Billy Batson moves in with Freddy's family and becomes Shazam.
Brett was portrayed by Carson MacCormac and Burke was portrayed by Evan Marsh.
What Makes Them Hate Sinks?[]
- They are shown to be arrogant jerks who constantly bully Freddy for their own sadistic enjoyment, with their harsh treatment of him often reaching criminal levels.
- They often go out of their way to spite or embarrass Billy and his foster siblings, just because they can.
- They lack empathy for others, as not only do they have zero qualms against physically assaulting Freddy, a literal a disabled kid, but they are perfectly willing to mock said disabled kid for not having a mom.
- They seem outright intent on killing Freddy in their introduction scene, as seen when they try to crash their truck into him.
- They beat and chase down Billy after the latter tries to stand up to them to defend Freddy.
- They aren't afraid to torment Freddy in front of the whole school, as seen when they give him a suitcase wedgie across school when Shazam (Billy) fails to show up, humiliating Freddy in the process.
- They have no problem with harassing even girls which shows their perverted side, as seen when they pick on a new girl at school named Anthea, and when Freddy tries to defend her, the two brothers throw him in the trash can and even bend one of his crutches.
- While they do have comedic moments, said moments only show how pathetic and despicable they are or serve as karma for their misdeeds.
- Overall, they both have no redeeming qualities and exist solely for the audience to hate and feel happy when they get their comeuppance, as the film's main antagonist Thaddeus Sivana can't really be hated despite being far more heinous due to his extremely tragic backstory of getting abused by his family and his sympathetic traits resulting from it.
