Tyler, better known as Bug, is a minor antagonist in the young adult collection of novels, the Gone series. Most of the time, he is a henchman for the tyrannical leader of Coates Academy, Caine Soren, and immediately chose his side when all of the adults suddenly vanished and the FAYZ started.
He has the ability to camouflage his entire body, including his clothes, and tends to use these powers for immoral purposes like stealing and spying on people.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He was sent to Coates Academy for posting recordings of embarrassing secrets about his classmates told by their parents and teachers on Facebook. We're given no reason on why he did this outside of it possibly just being for a laugh.
- He is a complete pervert who becomes reputable for using his power to sneak into girls' rooms and watch them undress, as we see him attempt with both Diana Ladris and Penny.
- He joined Caine's side in the Thanksgiving battle, spying on Sam's side to collect information and being the one to personally give Sam the message that Drake Merwin would kill the preschoolers he was holding hostage if Sam didn't fight Caine.
- He shows no loyalty to Caine whatsoever, as shown when he switched sides in Hunger if it meant he could have some food in return. What's worse is that he receives one of the fish that was supposed to be given to the preschoolers, all of whom were far more vulnerable to starvation and deserved it more.
- In Light, he started using his power to steal food from Sam and Caine's groups, becoming a nuisance for both of them.
- He tried to damage Sam's credibility by calling him a killer in an interview with the adults outside the FAYZ barrier. He had no reason for doing this outside of pettiness.
- Even his allies despise him as Penny used her illusions to scare him as punishment for sneaking into her room and Caine has threatened to kill him on multiple occasions.
- He is useless and cowardly in a physical alteration as when his power can no longer work due to him getting spray painted, he is not a challenge whatsoever and runs away.
- Although he has some comedic moments, none of them make his character any more likable, instead just accentuating how much of a pathetic creep he is.
- While he was raised by an abusive father and bullied by a drug addict brother, this isn't focused on outside of one passage, therefore it isn't particularly detracting from his detestability.
- As far as we know, he survived the FAYZ in the end, making him a Karma Houdini. This is especially annoying considering how many likable characters died while he lived.
