~ Menge burns Chapelle. |
Caleb Menge is a major antagonist in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt serving as one of the main antagonists (alongside Cyprian Wiley) in the Novigrad arc. He is the fanatical leader of the Temple Guard in Novigrad and is engaged by Geralt during the search for Dijkstra's treasure.
He was voiced by Richard Hawley.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
- When Menge became the leader of the Witch Hunters, he became famous for being an extremely cruel, fanatical psychopath who persecuted Inhumans such as elves and Dopplers, as well as Mages and sorceresses.
- When Caleb first appears in the game, he gives a hate speech towards the mages, the Doppler fae to the crowd, and then burns Felicie Cori and Doppler Chappelle alive at the stake.
- After Menge set Chappelle on fire, he caused a violent reaction from Geralt.
- When Menge meets Geralt at home, Triss approaches him with a contemptuous look and threatens Geralt never to come to Novigrad because she thinks that witchers cause trouble and that the city is only for pure people. This shows that Menge has a phobia not only of non-humans but also of witchers, even though they were once human.
- When Geralt is searching for treasure in Henckel's house, he learns in the notes that the Doppler was persecuted by Menge and wants to sew him alive and burn him at the stake like most Dopplers. In the notes you can find out that he took Siga Reuvean's stolen treasure for himself and hired more people to hunt down the entire Novigrad.
- When Geralt seemingly captured Triss, Menge ordered Triss tortured for sadism.
- His brutal death when Triss stuck it in his mouth was gratifying because he deserved it. First, at the hands of Triss, what he did to her and to other magicians and non-humans.
- Although Menge cares for Novigrad as a free and independent city-state to protect against hostile forces, he was loyal to the king of Redania, Radovid V. According to the information of a spy who was in his garrison, Radovid V wanted Novigrad to be absorbed into Redania. This shows that Menge could sell all of Novigrad for Radovid despite his concern for the city.
