“ | Victor: I think right now we should focus on the positive. Tonight was good. Amazing: Yeah, you think so, because I was worried it was umm…I don’t know…PATHETIC! Amazing triumphs in a nursing home, that’s great copy, Vick. Victor: Look, I’m a publicist, not a magician. You want big news, you have to have big fights. A superhero needs a supervillain and thanks to you, we’ve got none left. Amazing: Then get the…the…Death Man. Victor: Death Man is dead. Amazing: Father Doom. Victor: Life without parole. Apocalypto is doing 50 years. Armagezzmo’s in exile. Baron Mon Chaos got the chair. Amazing: Really. Victor: Casanova Frankenstein is locked up in a nut house. Amazing: Casanova Frankenstein. Now there was a supervillain. You know, he just…he’s got the eyes, you know. I can’t do it, but that voice was just pure evil. The battles we used to have were extraordinary. Victor: Used to. That’s the problem Captain, used to (Amazing thinks before smiling and shaking his head menacingly) |

~ Amazing’s breakdown after his confusing instructions for the Mystery Men to save him didn’t work and lashed out and blamed the Mystery Men instead of himself before his karmic death. |
Captain Amazing is the overarching antagonist of Mystery Men.
He is the celebrated superhero of Champion City, but in reality was a greedy, smug, and callous jerk only acting like a hero for the attention and sponsorships to increase his profits. When he starts losing sponsorships due to defeating all the supervillains, he purposefully orchestrates the release of his sadistic archenemy Casanova Frankenstein in an attempt to provoke a massive battle to generate publicity and retain sponsorships only for it to massively blow up in his face due to underestimating his old foe and lead to his karmic death.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He only acts like a superhero for the fame and money, but his true personality is that of a greedy and insufferably smug jerk who explodes at the smallest slight.
- He shoves a kid who was asking for his autograph and pushes away a senior in a wheelchair to crash just because they happened to be in his way of walking.
- He ultimately despises the people of Champion City characterized when he was disgusted that he had to save a nursing home and complained to his publicist that he wanted a high-stakes fight with a supervillain, showing he only cared about his own glory.
- When he starts to lose sponsorships due to being no villains left to fight, he uses his secret identity as billionaire lawyer Lance Hunt to fraudulently claim to the parole board that Casanova Frankenstein was cured so his sadistic archenemy could be released despite knowing he was “pure evil” and a dangerous threat, all so that he could provoke a massive fight with him for the publicity and to keep his sponsors.
- This makes him responsible for Casanova blowing up the asylum and killing everyone in it, to which Amazing shows no remorse for despite being aware of it.
- He smugly thinks he is unbeatable when he confronts Casanova Frankenstein only to be proven completely wrong when Casanova outsmarts and captures him.
- After being captured and set to die by Casanova’s invention the Psycho-frakulator, he cowardly begs Casanova to spare his life and sells out the whole city to die in a desperate attempt to save his own skin. When that fails, he offers to become Casanova’s sidekick in crime.
- When the main characters arrive to try and save him, he not only gives confusing instructions that didn’t work, but was too prideful to admit he was wrong and ending up losing it, cursing them repeatedly despite them doing exactly what he said and it being completely his fault before his incredibly karmic and disgraceful death.
- While his death by the Psycho-frakulator is brutal, he is not a scapegoat whatsoever considering it was literally and completely all his fault for releasing Casanova in the first place out of his own selfish desires and being a prideful Smug Snake who thought he couldn’t lose. So it is played for Stress Relief.
- Finally, his initial motive to prevent himself from losing sponsorships and getting more money is not only selfish and greedy, but extremely petty considering he was already a billionaire and could live comfortably for the rest of his life, proving himself to be an utterly callous and despicable fraud of a superhero that contrasts with the genuinely good-intentioned Mystery Men.
