~ Captain Frederick Gideon to Peter Locke as he murders him in cold blood. |
Captain Frederick Gideon is a major antagonist in the TV series Locke and Key.
He was portrayed by Kevin Durand.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- He has no regard for any life except his own. Despite claiming to take good care of his men, there is no indication that he does; him not abusing them could just be out of pragmatism.
- He believes that the meaning of life is to make people suffer. Hence, he ensures people are following the laws of King George III; in other words, he has spent years and years being a plague to anyone unlucky enough to live on the Northern Shore, killing people he suspects of being rebels. One day when he's out on terrorizing business, he bumps into Peter Locke. He beats him up and lets his soldiers help themselves to Peter's possessions. Then he tries to kill Peter's wife and daughter for literally no reason whatsoever, and when Peter dares to defend them, Gideon stabs him dead.
- He is very foolish, and this is shown when he unwisely allows a demon to possess him, but he gets pummeled by the Minutemen anyway. Then he got hanged like he deserved, preventing him from bothering anybody for a very long time.
- The scene where Kinsey Locke exorcises him and Nina Locke proceeds to push him into the portal of doom is played for complete satisfaction, stress relief, and wish fulfillment.
- Him nearly incinerating a young girl is a very unique instance of dog-kicking by Locke & Key standards.
- Overall, an extremely vile old man and obviously irredeemable psychopath who is extremely unintelligent and sadistic.
Trivia[]
- Cementing his status as a Hate Sink, his actor Kevin Durand has called Frederick Gideon out for his hubris and his impatience, stating that he has a god-complex. Fellow actors Connor Jessup and Darby Stanchfield have also elaborated on the fact that he is a piece of work and makes Dodge look harmless by comparison.
