Captain Stonefell is a major antagonist in the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina.
He was a vile sadist who assisted the Briarwood’s in massacring the Derolo family. Stonefell became captain of the guard following the coup and continued to pursue his sadistic desires in hunting down the resistance and overseeing a hellish prison for captives.
He is voiced by Darin DePaul.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- His first scene is delivering the “dinner guests” the Briarwoods requested which were in reality going to be killed and have their corpses dressed up as Vox Machina and hanged to mock them, smirking as he let them in and thus being complicit in the atrocity that took the lives of some young children.
- He lead a merciless assault on the resistance headquarters and upon capturing their leader Archibald, he remarked he was going to have fun torturing him.
- He repeatedly tortured Archibald and mocked the idea of heroism in general.
- When Archie spit blood on his shirt, he licked it and laughed before sending in the Duke to even more brutally torture Archie, watching as he ripped his ear off.
- He only objected when the Duke seemingly killed Archie because he wanted to torture info out of him and even said that if he wanted Archie dead, he would had a giant crush his head, a fate far worse than what the Duke did.
- When Vox Machina was just about to get out with Archie and the resistance captives and Vex said they would all get out together, he appeared with an army and a captive Scanlan, taunting them that at least they would all die together.
- He crushed one of his own men’s feet and used him as a human shield to die instead and save his own skin, shocking Vex.
- He is rather cowardly, targeting any weak points of his opponents and not facing them head on, as show when he slammed his hammer on the rebel friend of Vox Machina from behind and crushed her head in front of Keyleth and Scanlan, smiling while doing so and smugly smiling while his men shielded him from Keyleth’s retaliation and walking away. He later is seen smiling while he smashes an unarmed prisoner with his hammer.
- When a disguised Percy confronts him about his role in the massacre of the Derolo family, he smiles and states how while he killed some people because he was ordered to, he helped murder the Derolo’s just because he wanted to.
- He has a smug attitude when he thought he had the upper hand against Percy with his hammer, but once he realized Percy blew the hammer head straight off, his smug look is wiped from his face and replaced with fear.
- Tellingly, he is the first person on Percy’s list to die and Percy himself states that of all the 5 people on the list, Stonefell was the one he was least looking forward to, not holding any sort of respect or even fear of him.
- Unlike even fellow hate sink Professor Anders, Stonefell didn’t even have an unjustifiable reason for helping kill the Derolo family including children, bragging that he did it just out of For the Evulz sadism.
- Even though he and Anders' souls are stuck under Orthax's possession which is shown to be a painful experience, both had it coming and neither Stonefell nor Anders show any remorse for anything they did nor receive any sympathy from Vax when he sees them.
