ā | Look, these are drug dealers, okay? Just don't blow this for me, Willie. I'd lose my job, I'd go to jail. $80,000 of that money is mine. | ā |
~ Carl explaining his motives about robbing Sam Wheat with Willie Lopez. |
Carl Bruner is the main antagonist of the 1990 live-action supernatural romance film Ghost.
He is a bank accountant who was very desperate to pay back drug dealers for his loans from them. To do this, he recruited a muggler named Willie Lopez in robbing his former best friend Sam Wheat for his wallet, which abruptly resulted in Sam's death, setting off the events of the film itself.
He was portrayed by Tony Goldwyn.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Desperate to pay back some drug dealers, he backstabbed his own best friend Sam Wheat by having Willie Lopez rob the latter for his wallet, which contains the passwords to Sam's bank account that has access to $4,000,000, where it abruptly resulted in Sam's death.
- While he was shocked to know that Willie murdered Sam, not expecting that to happen, he didn't show any remorse, nor did he take any accountability for it, as he's still focused on paying back the drug dealers.
- He lusted over Molly Jensen behind Sam's back, as if he wanted him to be hers, especially now that Sam's dead. Naturally, Molly herself doesn't take it well, either.
- He ordered Willie to kill Oda Mae Brown after she donated the $4,000,000 he needed to charity, which were under Sam's orders, only for it to fortunately fail.
- He hypocritcally calls out Oda Mae for being a "thief," even though he recruited Willie to rob Sam earlier for the $4,000,000.
- He then attempts to murder Oda Mae by himself for giving away the $4,000,000 in check, only for it to be stopped by Sam.
- He threatens to kill Molly just to stop Sam from doing any further actions, which luckily backfired.
- His accidental death from being impaled by a broken window, which was caused by his ignorant attempt to attack Sam with a swinging hook, was never played for sympathy, as his betrayal against his ex-best friend Sam has already made him a soulless person even before he literally died, further empasized when some demons have the chance to literally drag him off to Hell after his fatal end.
