“ | You see that tin spaceship? See how it's not knocked over? You know what that means, professor? It means you don't get the unicorn! | „ |
~ The Carnival Barker to Mr. Gru, and his most infamous line. |
The Carnival Barker is a minor antagonist in Despicable Me. He is the greedy barker from Super Silly Land who runs the rigged Space Killer game.
He was voiced by Jack McBrayer.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- It is implied that he rigged the Space Killer game so that the players could not win and he could keep receiving money as a result, or at least goes along with it being rigged.
- He rudely mocks Gru and Agnes (who was trying to win a stuffed unicorn being offered as a prize at the game booth) for failing to knock over the UFO. This ultimately provokes Gru into paying for his own turn and pulling out his Big Blaster Cannon to shoot the UFO, destroying both the spaceship and most of the game's booth.
- He unwisely calls Gru "professor."
- Overall, he is shown to be a snide, greedy, and sarcastic man, with the somewhat comedic destruction of his game's booth being played for satisfaction rather than sympathy as he gives Agnes the unicorn in defeat and out of fear, bursting into tears afterward.
