These characters represent a type of person in the real world. Alternatively, they may represent a character’s bad side. Symbolic Hate Sinks can sometimes also be called "strawmen", a caricature or symbol, usually a political one, made as an informal fallacy to pummel on or denigrate an idea or concept that the author opposes.
