Cecilia Pederson is the main antagonist of the 2023 horror film Saw X, the tenth installment of the Saw franchise.
She is a con artist who takes advantage of dying individuals by giving them false hope that they would be cured through the "treatments" of The Pederson Project. In reality, Cecilia scams them off of their money and leaves them with nothing in the end after they lose their savings, but her frauds get in trouble when she tries to trick none other than John Kramer.
She was portrayed by Synnøve Macody Lund in her first villainous role.
What makes her a Hate Sink?[]
- She is a greedy, sociopathic, lying scam artist. She scammed 34 people with cancer, offering to cure them for payment. In truth, she exploited these people and gave them false hope, scamming them out of their money with her bogus cure. She has no shame in scamming and killing people with cancer and giving them false hope to benefit herself.
- She is a disgrace to her father, who actually was trying to develop a cure for cancer. She used her father's reputation and reports to scam people by offering to "cure" them, when in truth her father's research was still in development. She had no shame in going behind her father's back and using his reputation and research without his knowledge to scam vulnerable people.
- She is likely impersonating a doctor. Despite her medical knowledge, it is highly unlikely that she is an actual doctor given her scam operation.
- Despite her intelligence, she can be rather foolish and arrogant. Learning that John Kramer was the infamous Jigsaw Killer, she, instead of reporting him to the authorities, decided to scam him out of his money out of a combination of greed and wanting to prove to herself that she was smarter than him. This ended up being a very bad idea, as it led to her undoing. It also shows that she doesn't care if there is a serial killer putting people in horrific situations, as she would rather scam him out of money than report him to the police.
- She admits that she was happy about the deaths of her colleagues, as it meant more money for her and less loose ends. What proves more that she doesn't care for her colleagues is that she even remorselessly cut open Valentina's stomach and used her intestines to get her phone to call Parker Sears and told Gabriela to break her foot first during the Radiation Trap, knowing that this will increase the chance of her dying before murdering her partly just to spite John despite the fact that she had passed her test.
- She tries to torture John Kramer instead of simply killing him, all out of petty vengeance for rightfully being targeted by him after she scammed him and 34 other cancer patients. Normally this wouldn't be that heinous since John Kramer is the Jigsaw Killer, responsible for killing and torturing many people, except it isn't out of justice for his victims, but rather petty vengeance for rightfully being targeted by him herself after scamming him and all her other patients.
- She places Carlos, an innocent child, in a trap with John which will essentially waterboard them with blood, forcing John to either let himself die or let an innocent child die, just to spite John.
- She plans to kill Amanda (granted, Amanda would deserve it for her later actions in the series in addition to the crimes she had already performed at that point, but again, it is out of petty revenge for rightfully being targeted for her bad deeds). She also slaps Amanda even after she reluctantly lets her go.
- Despite thinking she outplayed John and Amanda, she is ultimately outwitted by them and serves to prove how bad an idea it is to scam the Jigsaw Killer.
- She remorselessly kills her boyfriend Parker to save her own skin.
- She makes it clear that she has absolutely no remorse for any of her bad deeds.
- Her whole point is that she is a more loathsome person than John Kramer or Amanda Young, with the former at least being tragic and somewhat honorable and the latter showing some remorse and mercy.
- Overall, unlike most of Saw's other villains she is a smug, petty, vengeful, spiteful, arrogant, irredemable and greedy scam artist who has absolutely no remorse for exploiting vulnerable people and giving them false hope, and thinks she can lie, cheat, and steal with no retribution. She also has no problem with torturing and murdering children.
