What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]
All versions[]
- She torments Carrie when she gets her period in the girls' locker room, inciting everyone to throw tampons at her and showing no remorse.
- She won't accept detention for bullying Carrie, but blames Carrie for the situation and wants to punish her for it.
- She tries to have her rich father sue the school and get Ms. Desjardin fired for banning her from the prom after she refuses to attend detention.
- She verbally attacks Sue Snell for defending Carrie and accepting detention.
- She comes up with the pig-blood prank, wanting to destroy Carrie's life because she blamed her for being banned from prom, even though that was Chris' own fault, as she was only banned as punishment for refusing to attend detention for what she did to Carrie. She lets her boyfriend Billy Nolan slaughter two pigs as part of this plan. She will than rig the votes so Carrie and Tommy Ross (her date, who did NOTHING to Chris) are declared prom king and queen. When they get on stage, they will dump two buckets of blood on the couple, humiliating them both in front of everyone. Tommy will be humiliated as well just as guilt by association. As a result of the prank, Tommy Ross is knocked out and possibly killed when the bucket meant for him fractures his skull.
- In the 1976 film, she watches the pigs get killed with clear sadism.
- In the 2013 film, she is the one to murder the pigs instead of Billy Nolan.
Novel only[]
- She has a history of bullying misfit students. In junior high, she put a firecracker in a girl's shoe and nearly blew two of her toes off, because the girl had a cleft lip.
- In the French version, it's stated that she bullies disabled students.
- It's stated that she's been sent to detention 73 times in four years, twenty of them for bullying, and that she skipped most of them.
- She is an antisemite. She sneers that one of her classmates, who is Jewish, would never win prom queen for that reason.
- She has bullied Carrie many times, such as calling her on the phone and telling her that "pig poop" is spelled C-A-R-R-I-E.
- When Chris learns of Carrie's rampage, her only concern is to get out of town and escape responsibility for her actions, showing no concern that her friends may be dead.
- While the narration mentions that she didn't want Billy to kill Carrie by running her over at the end, she doesn't actually bother to try and stop him.
- While her boyfriend has a Freudian excuse of coming from a broken home (though this doesn't remotely excuse his actions), she has no redeeming or sympathetic qualities.
1976 film and 2013 film[]
- She mocks Carrie for losing a volleyball game, telling her that she "eats shit."
- She tries to run Carrie over to get the last laugh on her. In the book, this was all on Billy, and Chris didn't want him to do this. In the 2013 version, she tries to kill Carrie even after the latter considers sparing her.
- She is more openly sadistic compared to the book, taking more joy in Carrie's humiliation, shaking with excitement and licking her lips in the '76 version, and laughing uncontrollably and even screaming "freak" despite hiding on the catwalk in the '13 film.
1976 film only[]
- Unlike in the book and other film versions, there is no mention or implication of Billy being abusive to her.
2013 film only[]
- She records the tampon incident in the shower with her phone and uploads it to YouTube, multiplying Carrie's humiliation from the incident. She later displays the video at the prom in addition to the pig blood prank.
Trivia[]
- Her 2002 film counterpart does not count, as she was reluctant to go through with the prank after seeing how happy Carrie was, only caving because Billy called her a chicken, she shows shock and remorse after the bucket meant for Tommy falls and kills him, and she actually tries to stop Billy when he tries to run over Carrie and kill her.
