~ Cerise at the end of Miraculous World: London, swearing vengeance on Ladybug. |
Chrysalis, also known as Lila Rossi, Cerise Bianca and Iris Verdi (known as Volpina, Chameleon, Hoaxer, Timestalker and Spectral Looter in her Akumatized forms), is the secondary antagonist of the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir franchise.
She is the love rival of Marinette and a consummate and manipulative liar. After Monarch's defeat, she takes his Miraculous and becomes the new main antagonist starting from Season 6.
She is voiced by Clara Soares in the French version and Lisa Kay Jennings in the English version.
What Makes Her a Hate Sink?
- She tricks all of Marinette and Adrien's classmates into believing her lies, like when she lies to them that she has tinnitus so she can sit next to Adrien in class.
- She makes Ladybug think that she is going to drop Adrien and cause him to fall to his death (who is in reality an illusion made with her akumatized powers) which results in Ladybug almost giving her Miraculous to her.
- She admits to Marinette that she only tells people what they want to hear, to which Marinette tells her that it's called lying. Lila then taunts Marinettes and gives her two choices: be her friend or have no friends. This frustrates Marinette and almost results in her getting akumatized.
- At the end of the episode "Chameleon", she tells Marinette that she and her are at war. She says that she will make all of her friends disappear and will get with Adrien but not before in that same episode, when she is akumatized, she puts Adrian's reputation at risk among other things.
- When she spots Marinette in a pile of trash bins, Lila taunts her by openly considering taking an embarrassing picture of her but dismisses it as "too easy".
- She lies that Marinette cheated on her test, causing their teacher to tell them both to go to the principal's office. On the way there, Lila goes to the bottom of a set of steps and pretends to be in pain as she lies down, lying that Marinette has pushed her down the stairs, causing the school to call Marinette's parents. It's then revealed that Lila sneaked her pendant into Marinette's locker to frame her as a thief. This causes Principal Damoclès to expel Marinette from school, which causes Scarlet Moth to mass-akumatize Marinette and her friends, making this the closest Marinette has ever gotten to being akumatized which would result in her giving her Miraculous to Hawk Moth.
- She gets close with and allies herself with Gabriel Agreste, Adrien's father, in order to get closer to his son.
- In "Protection", she subtly suggested to Gabriel to akumatize Kagami after she manipulated her into thinking Marinette was a bad person.
- She takes advantage of a deaf-mute woman and has her believe that she is her daughter.
- She lies to a bus driver that she forgot her valet and uses the fact that she's the female face of the Alliance rings just to get a free ride.
- During painting class, Lila uses the opportunity to badmouth Marinette to her painting teacher Sabine, who's also Marinette's mother.
- She and Chloé get Sabrina to forge their classmates' career forms against her will and attempt to pin the blame on Marinette. This also indirectly leads Juleka to get akumatized again.
- When she reads Adrien's form and learns that he loves Marinette, Lila becomes so disgusted and enraged by this that she orders Sabrina to forge his form again and have it even worse than Lila originally planned.
- She threatened Sabrina that she would convince Sabrina's own father to arrest her if Sabrina didn't hand over the proof that Lila and Chloé made her forged the school forms, only for her true nature to be revealed by everyone in the process.
- She used Mirage to create an illusion of Marinette transforming into Monarch to turn all of Paris against her.
- Cerise, through Chloé, tries to have Marinette expelled for a crime she didn't commit, and Ms. Bustier was unfairly fired for trying to talk sense into Chloé.
- While the other main antagonist, Hawk Moth, did have some redeeming qualities and ultimately decided to do the right thing in the end, Lila/Cerise on the other hand, has shown none of this and has proven to be far more vile than Hawk Moth ever was. Even though she did possess redeeming qualities of her own such as avoiding collateral damage, looking after the sick Natahlie, and babysitting Alya and Nino's siblings, she subverted all of them.
- Despite her alliance with Chloé in the later seasons, leading up to Lila's reign as Queen Mayor during the events of "Revolution," Lila quickly discards Chloé the moment she is no longer useful. Lila doesn't even attempt to defend her when she is exiled from Paris. Instead, she sadistically observes from the background and takes the opportunity to take control once her supposed ally is out of the picture. (Although it can be argued that Chloé deserved this fate for all the terrible things she did.)
- She is shown to be significantly more cruel to Nooroo than Gabriel ever was, often imprisoning the kwami in a small bubble. She shows no hesitation in completely paralyzing him for minor reasons. This is evident when Nooroo expresses relief that her world-ending plan failed in "Miraculous: London" and in "Daddycop," when he attempts to reason with her.
- She rudely dismissed a little girl named Maya, who just wanted to share her drawings with Lila, making her more vulnerable to akumatization.
Trivia
- According to Thomas Astruc (who created Miraculous Ladybug), he intentionally made Lila to be as unlikeable as possible.
