The Circus Elephants are the main antagonists of the 1941 Disney animated film Dumbo. They are comprised of the Matriarch, Catty, Prissy, and Giddy, and more informally and unofficially, Mrs. Jumbo (who unlike them is everything except for punchable).
What Makes Them Hate Sinks?[]
- They make fun of Jumbo Jr. for his appearance, mocking a completely defenseless baby elephant over his disability.
- Even though they fawned over him at first, they dropped the act as soon as his big ears were revealed, and knowing them the initial compliments could very well be sarcasm, being their characteristically awkward means of making fun of him for being such a small living organism.
- They are cowards, as Timothy Q. Mouse (quite justifiably) has a blast messing with all four of them, which is played for satisfaction.
- They disown Jumbo Jr. for a complete accident that caused the Big Top to fall. They also refuse to admit it's the ring master's fault since he had the sheer depravation of common sense to try to make them Jumbo Jenga each other in the first place. Matriarch even calls Dumbo an "assassin," heavily implying she thinks he caused this chaos on purpose, despite all evidence to the contrary.
- Them getting pelted with peanuts is played for complete satisfaction, especially since Jumbo Jr. didn't even bother doing anything to the clowns, showing how much worse they are than them.
- Prissy's voice is insanely annoying.
- Catty is the one who calls him "Dumbo" in the first place, and Matriarch is the one who first says he's no longer an elephant to begin with, showing just how rotten they really are.
- While they do seem to care for Mrs. Jumbo to a certain extent, it's not given enough elaboration to be humanizing.
- Aside from that one time Timothy teased them for giving Jumbo Jr. the cold shoulder, they never get punished for being cruel to Jumbo Jr. at all, and them cutting him some slack at the end isn't even remotely humanizing, as it establishes their philosophy is basically that being different is awful unless one's deformity is profitable for a circus business, especially after they were already progressively established to be problematically callous womanchildren beforehand anyway.
