If any credit is due, it should come to me. Prisoners deserve nothing.
~ Colonel McKinsey

Colonel D. McKinsey is a minor character in the video game Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. He is an Osean Air Defense Force officer in charge of the 444th Air Base where penal squadrons are based.

He was voiced by Osamu Mukai in Japanese, and dubbed into English by Dan Woren.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • He runs the 444th Air Base like his personal prison, where prisoners are treated horribly and constantly sent on suicide missions.
    • Even worse, it's revealed that he was the one to propose the idea of penal battalions, meaning he's directly responsible for their existence.
  • He is bad at his job, refusing to give prisoners access to weapons even when it's a good time especially when his base and his life are under attack from Erusea.
  • Any opposition to his orders, even if necessary to complete the mission, is punished by getting locked in solitary.
  • He doesn't have a nice word to say to anybody, treating his prisoners like dirt even after they save his life. It should be noted that even Bandog grew to respect Trigger once he's shown his skills.
  • Despite doing almost nothing to win the war, he hogs all the credit for his prisoners' victories. Ironically, this also got him transferred to the frontlines, as the high command believed him to be perfect for this job.
  • Overall, there's pretty much nothing admirable about his character, to the point where not only his prisoners, but even his right-hand Bandog, who is just as cruel as him, hold no respect for him, and a few actual villains come off as more sympathetic than him.

Trivia[]

  • McKinsey is currently the only Ace Combat Hate Sink on this wiki.
  • To drive home the point of McKinsey being a Hate Sink, the player actually gets points for shooting his plane down in the mission involving escorting him, and in case McKinsey gets killed by either enemies or the player, Bandog will state that he wasn't worth protecting.
