Red Ribon, more commonly known as Commander Red, is one of the main antagonists of the original Dragon Ball series, being the main antagonist of the Red Ribbon Army saga. He is also one of two posthumous overarching antagonists of the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (alongside Dr. Gero). He is the creator of the Red Ribbon Army who wants to conquer the world and use the Dragon Balls to grow taller.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- He is the one who founded and created the Red Ribbon Army, an organization that uses technology to terrorize and conquer Earth.
- It's implied that he had his cat attack several of his soldiers just for barging into his office. The English dub takes this further by implying that any soldier who fails to dodge the cat (such as one soldier who lost an eye) is executed for not having good enough reflexes. There's also nothing that shows he cares about his cat and only sees him as a weapon.
- He sent his men to get the Dragon Balls, which got hundreds of them killed because the Dragon Balls were located in dangerous, life-threatening places.
- He was a terrible boss, having people executed for things like failing a mission or making technology that was later discovered to be inferior to someone else's (in the original Japanese version, he states that he's going to have the creator of the RRA Dragon Ball radar executed after he learns that Goku possesses a much more accurate and portable one). As previously stated, the English dub takes this further by implying that he executes his soldiers just for not having good enough reflexes.
- He hired Mercenary Tao to kill Goku so he couldn't stand in his way. Red later ordered Tao to kill General Blue for failing to retrieve the Dragon Balls.
- He refused to back down when his army was getting destroyed by Goku, instead having Officer Black fight Goku, then ultimately betrays Black by dropping the ceiling on him in an attempt to kill Goku.
- It's revealed that his whole reason for finding the Dragon Balls was to grow taller. When Black confronts him for his wish being selfish and having nothing to do with the Red Ribbon Army and that his men got killed to get the Dragon Balls, Red says his wish to be taller has everything to do with the Red Ribbon Army, shows no remorse for getting his men killed and cruelly insults Black by calling him an errand boy and a lackey, who finally snaps and gives Red a well-deserved shot in the head.
- In the manga, he has a huge act of stupidity, admitting to Black's face that he was planning to wish to be taller, whereas in the anime, he admitted this out loud when he thought Black was dead, making it more forgivable.
- Even after his death, his actions have huge, everlasting consequences:
- After the Red Ribbon Army was destroyed, Dr. Gero would create the Future Androids and Cell, both of whom would wreak havoc in the present and future timelines and kill millions of people, including the future Z-Fighters, Goku, King Kai, Future Trunks and Androids 16 and 17.
- As a result of Goku's death, he was unable to help the Z-Fighters for more than 24 hours, leading to Majin Buu destroying Earth, killing everyone on it and causing even more havoc in Universe 7.
- After the fight with Buu, Gomah, the Demon Realm's new king, would watch the Z-Fighters fight Buu and see Dabura die, leading to him using the Dragon Balls to turn the Z-Fighters back into kids, forcing them to go on a journey to return themselves to their normal ages.
- Due to Future Trunks traveling to the present timeline to warn the Z-Fighters about the androids, Goku Black and Future Zamasu would later see this as a sin and travel to the future timeline to eradicate every single mortal, to the point where the entire timeline is later erased from existence by Future Zeno to keep the multiverse safe.
- Following Kid Buu's death, Moro managed to escape from his prison thanks to the magic inside Kid Buu containing Moro disappearing and nearly managed to drain all of Earth's life energy.
- Years later, Red's son, Commander Magenta, proceeded to bring back the Red Ribbon Army to continue his father's legacy, while recruiting Dr. Gero's grandson, Dr. Hedo, who created Gamma 1, Gamma 2 and Cell Max, the latter of which almost managed to kill Piccolo and resulted in Gamma 2's sacrifice.
- His past of being picked on for being short is an extremely petty excuse that doesn't even come close to justifying all of the people who got killed because of him.
- Unlike other villains in the franchise, he has no cool features. He's a loudmouthed, arrogant, petty man-child who can't even fight, has a pathetic wish, and killed hundreds of people just so he could become taller.
