“ | Ah! Yeah! This stupid thing is finally up and running! Hi to whoever gets this thing after me! This is Dedf1sh! And make sure you spell that with a "1", got it? I'm down in the Deepsea Metro Central Station! So here I am, rookie up-and-coming DJ, trying to escape Octarian society, you know, just wandering around for an escape... and somehow, I ended up down here! And then I meet this weird telephone! I think it's an AI or something. I think it's kinda old though, 'cause the lingo it uses is like SUUUPER outdated. Apparently, normally to pass through here and get to the surface, folks have to pass a series of tests, but after I showed it some of the stuff I've been working on, the phone said it could make an exception for me! I'm hired! Phone says all I gotta do is make a few little songs that'll play during the tests that future applicants are gonna go through. After that, it's a one-way ticket to Inkopolis, baybee!!! I'm so excited! ♪ You better watch out, Inkopolis! 'Cause pretty soon... this rookie DJ is gonna take you by storm! | „ |
~ Ahato describing her encounter with Tartar in her CQ-80 device's recording. |
Commander Tartar (also known as the Telephone) is the unseen posthumous main antagonist of #14-CRUSH, a webcomic serving as a fan-sequel to Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion. It is an ancient artificial intelligence who attempted to wipe out Earth's lifeforms to replace them with its own creations, before being stopped by Agent 8 and her friends.
What Makes It A Hate Sink?[]
- It's essentially identical to its canon counterpart, so it has all of Canon!Tartar's hateable qualities (killing and "sanitizing" various Octarians, being xenophobic towards sea creatures, attempting a genocide).
- Its actions leave a huge impact on Ahato Mizuta/Dedf1sh, with the entire webcomic essentially being her slowly recovering from what Tartar did to her, both physically and psychologically.
- Ahato implies it's a bad boss towards its minions.
- It lacks any comedic quality, with things getting darker whenever it's involved.
Trivia[]
- Interestingly enough, while the canonical Tartar has hateable qualities too, it can't count as a Hate Sink due to the creators not intending for it to be one.
