Count Orlok, also known as the Nosferatu, is the titular main antagonist of the 2024 gothic supernatural horror film Robert Eggers's Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 German silent film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. He is a sorcerer vampire and aristocrat who grows infatuated with Thomas Hutter's wife, Ellen Hutter, ever since she was young, and becomes angered over her marriage with Thomas as he plans to force her to submit to him by any means necessary. Originally, Orlok was a Solomonari who was cursed by the Devil to become a vampire.
He was portrayed by Bill Skarsgård, who played Marquis de Gramont in John Wick: Chapter 4, and Pennywise in the It film duology adaptation.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink[]
- When a teenaged Ellen prayed for a "protecting angel", he took advantage of this link through her psychic mean where he hypnotized the young girl by luring her outside of her home where he attacked and raped her, making him an ephebophile.
- His actions left Ellen traumatized, causing him to haunt her until they made a pact that she would give herself to him until she met Thomas Hutter, causing her to forget about Orlok, which enraged him.
- He killed several people in a village so horribly, the villagers refused to say his name out of fear.
- He is also shown to be racist towards the villagers by calling them "savages" or "Gypsies".
- He tried to kill Ellen’s husband Thomas out of envy.
- When he first meets Thomas, unlike his original version who was faux affably evil, he doesn’t even try to be polite at all and acts extremely rude.
- He plague-infected rats on a ship killing all of the crew.
- Even children aren’t safe from him, killing Clara, Louise, and unborn brother named Friedrich Jr.
- He is also a complete coward by leaving his pet wolves to die.
- He kills Ellen by having sex with her and drink her blood.
- His death is well deserved despite being brutal and gross.
- Unlike his original counterpart, he lacks any evil is cool presence or charisma.
Trivia[]
- To emphasize his status as a Hate Sink, his actor Bill Skarsgård called him pure evil and even the director Robert Eggers said "He's a demon. He's so evil."
