The customer is a minor antagonist in SpongeBob SquarePants, who appears in the episode "Pizza Delivery" as the main antagonist.
He is voiced by Doug Lawrence.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He refuses to take or pay for SpongeBob's pizza (in spite of him and Squidward risking life and limb just so they could deliver it to him), just because they didn't bring him his Diet Dr. Kelp, which he failed to even order!
- Worse yet, he actually wanted pizza from the Krusty Krab, a place that doesn't even serve pizza, let alone deliver (as Squidward points out) and was already closed by the time he called, showing just how stupid and greedy he is.
- It's possible that he did order a Diet Dr. Kelp (he was saying something before Mr. Krabs hung up), but his reaction is still disproportionate for two reasons;
- Even if he was ordering a Diet Dr. Kelp as Mr. Krabs cut him off, he just as easily could've called them back and made sure they got that part, which he obviously didn't. He also didn't bother to check his house to see if he had a drink already.
- If anything, he should have still paid for the pizza. It's not like he was still being charged for the Diet Dr. Kelp that he didn't get. If he really wanted the Diet Dr. Kelp that much and was that upset over not getting it, he could've called the Krusty Krab back to complain to Mr. Krabs after taking the pizza from SpongeBob. His anger and verbal abuse at SpongeBob were unwarranted considering that he was merely the deliveryman, whereas it was Mr. Krabs who took the order and gave it to SpongeBob.
- Although he didn't know what SpongeBob went through to deliver the pizza to him, he could clearly see that SpongeBob was starting to cry, meaning he should have realized he was being overly harsh. He also clearly saw SpongeBob take out a checklist to confirm that they received no order for a Diet Dr. Kelp.
- It's also worth mentioning that the Krusty Krab is only meters from his house, meaning he could've just walked over and gotten his order himself (or at least asked Mr. Krabs if he ordered a drink), but instead he had SpongeBob and Squidward deliver it to him because he was too lazy to get it himself.
- After refusing the pizza, he then rudely throws it in SpongeBob's face and then slams the door on him while insulting him for "not thinking about the customer", driving him to tears. This act was so cruel that it horrified and angered Squidward of all people to the point where he actually felt sorry for SpongeBob. That's really saying something since SpongeBob irritates Squidward on a regular basis. In response, Squidward then knocks on the customer's door again and gives him a well-deserved punishment by throwing the pizza in his face, exclaiming that "this one is on the house!"
- Judging from his overall personality, he seems to exist primarily to represent the most unpleasant traits of an unsatisfiable and disrespectful customer, and his punishment by Squidward was rightfully justified.
- Despite the existence of Squilliam Fancyson and Kevin C. Cucumber, the Customer is one of the first examples of Bikini Bottom being a terrible place to live in.
- On top of being absurdly stupid and inconsiderate, he stands out as the fastest character to have caused SpongeBob to break into tears, being the only one presented seriously enough to do so within seconds.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, he looks similar to Tom, who had the opposite (albeit comedic) reaction when SpongeBob and Patrick tried to sell him chocolate, with him politely asking for all the chocolate they had while paying for it.
