What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He's literally a Nazi.
- During World War II, he experimented on countless foreign prisoners by making them turn themselves into stone via simply touching the Obelisk. Peggy Carter was so disgusted by this in-universe that she left him to rot in prison.
- Upon being released from prison in 1989 thanks to Alexander Pierce, Whitehall spent an entire week kidnapping and vivisecting Jiaying—an immortal female Inhuman who touched the Obelisk without dying in his experiments. He used her blood and organs to age back a few decades and then disposed of her carcass in a ditch, where her husband Cal found her and sought vengeance from that point on. It's safe to say that Jiaying wouldn't have become deranged misanthrope later on if it wasn't for Whitehall.
- This scene is often considered to be one of the most disturbing ones in the whole show, since it contributed to its very first TV-14 rating.
- He tortures and brainwashes S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 33 into a goon for HYDRA using the Faustus method. The experience was so traumatic for her that it eventually resulted in her getting accidentally gunned down by her own boyfriend, Grant Ward.
- He brainwashes Carl "Crusher" Creel (Absorbing Man) and Donnie Gill (Blizzard) into doing his dirty work, resulting in the former killing a handful of innocent people as well as the latter getting shot dead by Skye in order to save May and Hunter.
- He plans to unleash the power of the Obelisk to kill potentially millions of people in pursuit of power, ultimately resulting in Agent Trip sacrificing himself in order to prevent widespread mutations and chaos.
- He orders the Bus shot down right after Ward promised to spare it in exchange for Skye.
- He plans to vivisect Skye right in front of her father Cal before killing him too.
- His death is rather unsatisfying, as when Cal was about to brutally rip him apart, Coulson just shoots him in the back.
- During flashbacks in season 5 (which takes place long after his death), it's revealed that Whitehall forced cadets to kill their own pet dogs in order to complete their intense training. He also had the teen General Hale artificially inseminated with her daughter Ruby, threatening to brainwash her with the Faustus method if she refused.
- Of all the villains in the series, Whitehall is easily the most despicable and if not the vilest antagonists in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and it's very hard not to see why.
