Derek Clifford Simmons is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Carla Radames) in Resident Evil 6, serving as the main antagonist of Leon's campaign, the secondary antagonist of Ada's campaign, and a supporting antagonist in Jake's campaign.
He is the National Security Adviser of President Adam Benford and leader of the group known as The Family. He is the one who is responsible for the nuclear destruction of Raccoon City and the bioterrorist attack on Tall Oaks which even infects the president as well. He can be encountered in Leon and Ada's campaign.
Due to his actions, he is the archenemy of Helena Harper and Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 6.

What Makes him a Hate Sink?[]
Early Life[]
- Became the controller of the Family, a terroristic organization which made itself control the world by working behind the scenes and manipulating governments around the world ever since the American revolutionary war,
- Gave Ada Wong unspecified missions
- Used Raccoon City as a keypoint for his research in the use of Bioweapons throughout the world
- When the Raccoon City Outbreak happened in 1998 with the T-virus being leaked into the water by sewer rats turning most of the population into zombies, he Ordered the destruction of the entire City killing 100,000 people/zombies, to keep the truth that his involvement as the U.S. government with Umbrella was destroyed rather than protect the rest of the world.
- While he does presumably give Jill & UBCS members a chance to save Raccoon City by daybreak to stop the nuke from hitting RC if a vaccine or cure is given to them, Nicholai destroyed the last vaccine, and because of that Raccoon City was vaporised off the face of the earth
- Because his act of destroying Raccoon city while keeping the truth about it a secret, it drove Ada to leave him and break off all contact, which drove Derek Simmons mad, which made him make it his mission to create his own Ada Wong.
- Kidnapped 12,234 women and ordered Carla Radames to use her C-virus to try and make them into his own image of Ada, while most turned into failures by killing them or turning them into monstrosities like the Lepitoca’s.
- Convinced Carla to be his 12,235th subject, and used her romantic feelings for him to his advantage and she said yes, and she ended up becoming the perfect clone of Ada Wong.
- In order to make Ada/Carla perfect he “reprogrammed” her to make her like ada in every regard from personality to looks and also make sure that she would never leave him again. However Carla eventually regained her original personality, and was pissed at what Simmons did to her, which made her into the omnicidal maniac she was known for.
- Gave Carla/Ada a submarine base and complete control of the Family’s East Asia Soldiers to do whatever she wants.
- After the destruction of Raccoon City he adopted Sherry and as her legal guardian. But Derek is abusive towards her and doesn’t care about her at all, as he found her “goodness” nauseating and only used her because of the G-virus regenerative abilities she has. constantly experimenting on her for 11 years and using the G-virus in her body for development on the C-Virus
- After Wesker died he made Sherry into a government agent using her regeneration powers for his own benefit.
2012[]
- After hearing of the existence of the son of Albert Wesker, Mercenary Jake Muller in Edonia, Simmons believed he could use his blood and anti-bodies in his body to make vaccines for the C-virus as well as enhance the C-Virus. And Sent Sherry to extract him, and Carla to confirm he has the antibodies and make sure that the duo make it out alive. However Carla betrayed Simmons and kidnapped them both and experimented on them for 6 months to make the enhanced C-virus on her own while Carla informed him that they both died.
2013[]
- 6 months after Edonia, the President Adam Benford, Derek’s best friend of 30 years, decided to reveal to everyone the truth of what really happened in Raccoon City and the governments involvement on bioterrorism at ivy University in Tall Oaks. Derek himself tried to stop this as it would ruin the U.S. government & the Family’s reputation but Benford Refused.
- in order to stop Benford from revealing the truth, he kidnapped Deborah Harper the sister of DSO Agent Helena Harper, to blackmail Helena into having the president exposed to the C-virus. Which Helena reluctantly agrees to, to save her sister,
- Kills Benford by infecting him with the C-Virus.
- Used Lepotitca’s to infect everyone in Tall Oaks.
- Infected Deborah with the C-virus turning her into a monster, after Helena went through on the deal, which shows that she helped kill the president for nothing.
- Framed Leon & Helena for causing the attack of Tall oaks and killing the president.
- Nuked the entire town of Tall Oaks killing over 70,000 people hence creating Raccoon city 2.0. To keep his involvement with the terrorist attack a secret.
- When he found out from the Real Ada about Carla’s plans to commit omnicide he goes to China, as well as Meet up with Jake and Sherry who had escaped.
- When he found out that Leon & Helena had faked their deaths and are on a Jumbo plane to china, he infected the pilots with the C-virus and turned one into a Lepioca which infected everyone else on the plane and turned them into zombies, except for conveniently Leon and Helena.
- Indirectly allows the plane to crash into Lanshiang after Leon’s failed attempt of flying the plane presumably killing hundreds.
- When Leon & Helena finally confronted in him and soldiers from the family in a building in Koocheng in Lanshiang, they have a brief stand off until Jake & Sherry show up, who he orders Sherry to arrest Leon & Helena.
- When asked by Sherry if he was responsible for the attack in Tall Oaks, he confirms it and makes stupid excuses that it would be better for the U.S. and global security.
- Sarcastically says he has Leon to thank for killing the President.
- Orders his men to dispose of Leon & Helena,
- While he does stop his men from firing at Jake and Sherry he only does it because they are still of use to him.
- When a firefight happens with Leon, Helena and his soldiers, he leaves, but also got shot by a syringe with the Newly developped Enhanced C-virus by Carla, from a Stray J’avo.
- Pushes a soldier out of the way who was only trying to help get the syringe out.
- Retreats on a train, while slowly succumbing to the virus.
- Runs to the front of the train to evade Leon & Helena.
- Angrily listened to a call from Carla and destroys his phone before the speech from Carla is finished.
- When confronted by Leon & Helena again, he hypocritically accuses them of chasing him instead of Carla.
- Made up bullshit excuses of why he killed the president.
- Upon Finally succumbing to the virus, he mutates into a shapeshifting creature with his first form being similar to a sabre tooth and immediately began to attack the duo in his new mutant state while proclaiming to kill them with his bare hands.
- Throws Leon into another train, then mutates into a centaur with a machine gun head and proceeded to chase him there. Until Leon jumps back onto the original train with Helena.
- Sadistically mocks Helena by offering to reunite her with her sister by killing her.
- Directly Runs into an oncoming train and derailed it killing everyone on board.
- Runs back at the original train to kill Leon and Helena, if they don’t shoot on time this train also gets derailed and kills the duo.
- When hit by the train he transforms back into a human, while proclaiming that Leon and Helena have no idea what will happen if he dies then transforms again, showing his egotistical side.
- Throws a piece of metal debris towards the duo, but Helena shoots him in the head.
- Angered at “The Family” in the helicopter leaves him. Then slips of the train and proceeded to get shredded by the wheels, which derailed the train Leon & Helena are on.
- When at the Quad Tower, he killed the BSAA agents and let zombies inside to kill and infect any survivors.
- Confronted Leon & Helena again there, this time with the real Ada in a helicopter, where he thought she was Carla, he then accused her of taking Jake away. Before succumbing to his mutation again. This time turning into a Giant T-Rex abomination and fights the trio, he will throw cars or jump at the helicopter to kill Ada.
- Kills the BSAA agent in a car by making him crash.
- Upon getting too much damage he succumbed to his wounds and is knocked out.
- Confronted Ada in the top of the Quad tower building still believing her to be Carla, and tried to kill her and even knocked her out for a minute before Leon and Helena showed up for assistance.
- Tells Leon who was protecting Ada to get away from her and told Ada to come with him, then he turns back into a machine gun centaur and proceeded to shoot at them both, but they survive and they all fight Simmons again.
- When Leon gets knocked off and is hanging from the tower, Derek stepped on his hands, while asking him to beg for his life if he wants to live, but Ada shows up and stabs him in the abdomen with an arrow then pushes him below into a fire where he is burned.
- Not even that was enough to kill Simmons, as he made his way to the roof to fight Leon and Helena again in his new form, where he used tentacles to stab zombies and combine them to his new body where he turns into a giant fly and proceeded to try and kill Leon & Helena one final time.
- Upon being defeated, the fly form is destroyed and Derek turns back into a human, as he falls from the tower until being impaled by an obelisk at the bottom of the tower.
- Tried to mutate one final time while being impaled, but he got killed for good, while his blood ran down the spire into the fountain below, ironically creating the Umbrella logo and symbolizing he was just as evil as Umbrella and the US governments connections to Umbrella.
- Overall, has no redeeming qualities or anything mitigating at all and is probably one of the most vile characters in the franchise like Brian Irons and has nothing good about him in general.
