Devin Weston is the main antagonist of Grand Theft Auto V. He is a highly influential billionaire based in Los Santos who owned multiple businesses, including 11% of Merryweather, a private military company. Initially presenting himself as an ally to Michael, Trevor and Franklin, Weston soon becomes their archenemy.
He was voiced by Jonathan Walker.
What Makes Him Despicable?[]
- He underpaid his men because he fancied himself to be untouchable.
- He participated in the torture of Ferdinand Kerimov, an innocent man.
- Although Trevor and Haines also participated in it, Trevor was forced to do so by Haines to root out a suspected terrorist, while Weston had no stakes in it, simply doing it for sadism.
- He made Trevor, Franklin and Lamar steal high end business cars for him but stiffed them on their payment by lying to them because it's fun to him.
- He betrayed his longtime friend, Solomon Richards by getting Molly Schultz to steal Solomon's master copy of Meltdown, so he could get payed from destroying these records by getting the insurance. Although Solomon fooled both Weston and Molly by having multiple copies, Weston didn't know that.
- He coldly dismissed Molly's death, only being angry because he lost a counsel and not because he truly cares about her.
- He sent Merryweather's mercenaries in an attempt to kill Michael's wife and daughter, Amanda and Tracey, and taunted Michael and Jimmy about it. (fortunately, Devin's goal failed)
- If Michael were to call Devin after, Devin would act petty because Michael "made a fool out of him."
- He tried to convince Franklin to kill Michael, all for resisting him.
- In (the non-canon) Ending B, when Franklin did kill Michael, Weston derides him as a chump, doesn’t pay him for the deed, and cuts all contact with him.
- He is shown to be extremely narcissistic and stupid as he overestimates his influence and ability to manipulate and control others, believing it makes him invincible. He would be proven wrong in (the canon) Ending C by the protagonists.
- He is also shown to be a weak coward as in Ending C, he would attempt to hide from Trevor when the latter raided his home and he is knocked in one hit, he would cowardly try to bribe Trevor into releasing him but fails.
- After the protagonists kill him, Don Percival, the CEO of Merryweather mailed them that the company disliked Weston and won't pursue them, showing how much he mistreated the company.
- Overall, he is considered one of the most despicable characters of the GTA series as he is so narcissistic and obnoxious that he manages to attract a certain level of hatred within the game and from players. He has shown to be a coward who nobody misses when he is killed off in the canonical Ending C with even most of his allies happy that he's gone.
- He also lacks a terrifying Evil is Cool presence that even other GTA Hate Sinks such as Tenpenny and Dimitri have and unlike those two, Devin comes off as being an annoying coward.
