Silly fool, how dare you defy me! Am I not in charge of the affairs of state? If I want to do it, who shall say me no? Do you doubt the temper of my sword?

    • Zheng Tai describes Dong Zhuo as "A fierce wild beast: If he comes, his prey will be humans!"
    • Lu Zhi says that "long have I known this man. In appearance innocent, he is a very wolf at heart. Let him in, and calamity enters with him. Stop him, do not let him come, and thus will you avoid upheaval."
  • When Dong Zhuo's force is camped out of the Luoyang, every day he is to be seen in the streets with an escort of mailed soldiers, which causes the common people in a state of constant trepidation.
  • Dong Zhuo spread a feast and invited many guests in order to state that he will deposit the Emperor Shao (Liu Bian) and set up the Prince of Chenliu (Liu Xie). When Ding Yuan opposes the deposition, Dong Zhuo draws his sword and attempts to kill Ding Yuan. It is Lu Bu's presence which makes Li Ru, Dong Zhuo's advisor, hastily interpose Dong Zhuo's attempt. After Ding Yuan angrily leaves, Lu Zhi opposes the deposition and Dong Zhuo draws his sword and attempts to kill Lu Zhi, but eventually stays his hand after Cai Yong and Peng Bo remonstrates.
  • After Lu Bu kills Ding Yuan and comes over to Dong Zhuo's side, Dong Zhuo prepares a banquet in the capital at which all the officers of state were guests. • After successfully depositing Emperor Shao, Dong Zhuo ordered the former Emperor Shao, his mother, the Imperial Consort, Lady Tang, to be removed to the Palace of Forever Calm with the entrance gates locked against all comers and their daily daily supplies gradually diminishing.
  • After accepting Li Ru's suggestion of employing people of reputation to gain public esteem, Dong Zhuo summons Cai Yong, a people of reputation Li Ru recommended, but Cai Yong refuses. Dong Zhuo threats that Cai Yong and his whole clan would be exterminated if Cai Yong still refused.
  • After knowing that the immured deposed former Emperor Shao expresses his unhappiness from the messenger sent by Dong Zhuo for news of the prisoners, Dong Zhuo views it "a fair excuse to put them all out of the way" and ordered Li Ru to kill the deposed emperor, his mother, and his consort.
  • After killing the deposed emperor, his mother, and his consort, Dong Zhuo spends his nights in the Palace, defiles the imperial concubines there, and sleeps on the Dragon Couch.
  • When Dong Zhuo leads his soldiers out of the city to Yangcheng and sees the villagers are assembled from all sides for the annual spring festival, Dong Zhuo orders his troops to surround the place, and plunders and kill the people. Dong Zhuo's troops take away booty by the cart loads, and women prisoners and more than one thousand severed heads. When they returns to the capital Luoyang, Dong Zhuo claims that they have obtained a great victory over some rebels. They burns the heads beneath the walls, and the women and jewelry are shared out among the soldiers.
  • After Yuan Shao leads a united force against Dong Zhuo's force and Guan Yu kills Hua Xiong, a general of Dong Zhuo's force, Dong Zhuo accepts Li Ru's suggestion of removing Yuan Wei, Yuan Shao's uncle, and orders Li Jue and Guo Si to take five hundred troops to surround the residence of Yuan Wei and kills every person regardless of age.
