Donovan is a minor antagonist in the video game, Saw II: Flesh & Blood.
What makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- He was a serial domestic abuser, beating the various women he dated. He also claimed that the abuse was for their own good.
- After being rightfully arrested by Detective David Tapp, he held a grudge against the officer. In-game, since David is dead, this leads Donovan to try and kill Michael Tapp, the adult son of David, who had nothing to do with his arrest anyway, showing that he is unfairly blaming Michael for something his father did, which was entirely justified anyway.
- He is very stupid. He tries to murder Michael even though Michael could help free him from the spiked head cage and spiked harness Donovan is forced to wear. On that note, the head cage and harness Donovan wears are designed to dig deeper into his body every time he makes a sudden movement. As such, any pain he causes to Michael using the spikes will be reflected back onto him. Despite this, he still thinks it's a good idea to run after Michael and try to kill him with his spikes just to get his petty revenge for rightfully being arrested for beating his girlfriends.
- Donovan actually does tell Michael to help free him from the spiked devices...while still trying to kill him. One of the things he may say if he succeeds in killing Michael is "Why wouldn't you help me?" This shows that he actually expects the person he is trying to kill to help him as he's still trying to kill him.
- Overall, he is a stupid and murderously vengeful woman beater who refuses to accept blame for his actions, thinks petty revenge is worth driving spikes deeper into his head and torso, and expects the person he is trying to kill to help him.
- While his punishment from Jigsaw is quite horrific, it does not make him a scapegoat, as he brings it all upon himself and tries to kill the only person who could have helped free him just for the sake of petty revenge for deserved punishment.
