What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- Despite being a popular student in Empire State University he puts on a polite, face while he is actually a very cruel and sadistic bully who enjoys to torment and humiliate, Peter Parker's best friend Max Dillon for no reason other than sadism.
- He ignores the fact that, Max admires him for being cool and how he does all he can to be like Doug.
Spider-Man: The New Animated Series[]
- He and his friends kidnapped Max by shoving him into car, after they forcefully: tied his hands together, duct taped a helmet onto his head, blindfolded him and then planed to dump Max somewhere in Bronx.
- This leads to Max sneaking into the front seat then taking the driving wheel then attempting to drive away while blindfolded and ending Max driving into a pit full of concrete and he could have drowned had Spider-Man not saved him in time.
- It should also be noted that if anyone got hurt by Max's driving, Doug would have been the one completely responsible.
- This was a extremely reckless thing for Doug to do, as if someone saw that Max was in the car or a police officer came by saw him, Doug could have gotten suspend, expelled, or even arrested for kidnapping, regardless if it was just a prank.
- After Spider-Man saves Max from drowning, his reaction is to scowl at the ruined rental, showing absolutely no concern or any remorse, over the fact that he could have accidentally got someone killed.
- He gleefully punches Peter in the face, just for warning Max about him.
- He fakes having Max join the Sigma council, says for his "Judgment" where all his friends vote down, which starts the "rejection ritual" where his frat brothers humiliate Max by shooting him with paintball guns after mockingly and sadistically saying "Sucks to be You."
- It should be noted that paintballs are very painful to get hit by, and can blind someone if they hit the eyes, which they constantly aim at Max's face, ignoring the fact that they could accidentally blinded him.
- This action lead to Max running out of the party, then being transformed into Electro. This all could have been avoided if he simply left Max alone.
- It should be noted that paintballs are very painful to get hit by, and can blind someone if they hit the eyes, which they constantly aim at Max's face, ignoring the fact that they could accidentally blinded him.
- Although his death of being thrown out of window then being, painfully electrocuted until he stops moving, by Electro was gruesome, absolutely horrific, not played for satisfaction, and played for very slight sympathy, it's should be noted how it's all his fault for turning Max into a villain so he brought this fate on himself.
- Although his funeral was played for sympathy and Harry notes, that while Doug angered a lot of people but he didn't deserve to die like this, the scene is very short and brief.
Legacy[]
- Even after his death, his actions indirectly led Electro's life being ruined, his descent into becoming an supervillain and his brutal death in "When Sparks Fly".
Trivia[]
- He, Officer Barr, Turbo Jet ,and Richard Damian are the only four hate sinks in Spider-Man: The New Animated Series.
