Dr. Gregory Butler, also known as the Babyface Killer, is a supporting character in the horror comedy film Happy Death Day, and the main antagonist in it's 2019 sequel Happy Death Day 2U.

He is a doctor and physics professor working at Bayfield University who is in an licensious affair with Tree despite being currently married. Despite his limited screen time in the first movie, it's his affair with Tree that motivates the film's main antagonist Lori in trying to kill her as the Babyface Killer.

Though, while he was simply an unfaithful husband in the first film, his other dimensional counterpart in the second movie gains a much more major role and is more despicable as he is the Babyface Killer, who murders witnesses and people in order to cover up his affairs.

He is played by Charles Aitken, while his masked version is played by Andy Dylan.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

First film[]

  • He cheats on his wife with one of his students (protagonist Tree), and openly calls her a "buzzkill" when she is mentioned.
  • He is also said to have slept with Lori, likely meaning that having affairs with students is somewhat common with him, this also implies he purposely starts affairs with his students (being the one to come onto them).
  • Although he is murdered in one time loop, this isn't portrayed sympathetically at all and is brushed over very quickly.
  • He is implied to like cheating on his wife, as he seems to like the thrill of not getting caught.
  • Once Tree admits that seeing him is wrong and she ends the affair, he insults her, claiming she read her lines from a "lame find yourself book" and threatens to drop her out of class.
  • Although he claims to care for Tree, he only really likes to keep her around for his sexual pleasures and to fulfill his "fun" of cheating on his wife.

Second film[]

  • Much like his main dimensional counterpart, he is cheating on his wife Stephanie with Lori Spengler (his student).
  • He releases John Tombs, planning to murder Lori to hide is affair, which would of endanger tons of people.
  • He says sexist terms and remarks to both girls (Tree and Lori).
  • In one loop, he kills Carter for being a witness to his plan (who wasn't involved at all with anything going on between him, his wife, and Lori).
  • His wife Stephanie was willing to help him cover up his affair (as she didn't want to have her life ruined by a student of his), and in the last loop, he fatatilly shoots her with the gun she handed him to finish Lori and Tree off, saying he wants a divorce.
  • His actions are never played for laughs, and he becomes worse and worse as the movie progresses.
