Dr. Jason Woodrue is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside the Joker) of the 1997 film Batman & Robin, the fourth installment of Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher's Batman film and comic series.
He is a mentally disturbed and cruel mad scientist who previously worked with Wayne Enterprises before being rejected for the utterly unethical approach and means of his processes. As a result, he found establishment for work in South America where he would continue his experiments in secret from the legal system.
He is portrayed by John Glover.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- He has no sort of Freudian Excuse or tragedy motivating his crimes even from the beginning. Although it is true that he was spurned from Wayne Enterprises by the experimentation team, it was entirely his own fault as it was because they became aware of the nature of his tests.
- He generally never fails to present himself as an utterly vile, despicable, and horrible person, lacking any genuine comedic moments in contrast to the nature of the setting and taken completely seriously.
- He overall has no redeeming qualities of any sort, showing no sense of remorse at all for the enormity resulting from his inhumane and odious experiments.
Batman & Robin[]
- Prior to the events of the main story, he created a super-serum dubbed by himself as Venom which he tested out specifically on inmate Antonio Diego, causing him to become Bane.
- Prior to succeeding with Bane, he states him to be the "sole survivor" of him experiments, proving that all of the inmates on whom he tested progressively improved strains of the Venom were killed by it before him.
- Although it is true that his test subjects are prison inmates, the fatal danger and lack of safety in his experimental process are cited by multiple credible sources (including his own word), in essence proving his lack of regard for basic human rights for the sake of his goals.
- Pushes Pamela Isley into a highly toxic table of experimental test material in an attempt to kill her out of anger for disagreeing with the idea of continuing to help him with his goals now knowing the entirety of his true atrocious nature.
- Making such even worse is that not only did he briefly succeed in killing Pamela, it also makes him the most directly responsible for her becoming Poison Ivy, the impact of such would later plague Gotham and threaten the world.
- Worthy of note is that the table also included snakes, also further implying Animal Cruelty for the sake of gathering venom and/or having animal subjects for other tests.
- Although his demise at a poisoned kiss from Poison Ivy is unpleasant for a light description, it is played for satisfaction and serves as fitting punishment for his numerous enormities.
