Agent Edgar Ross is the main antagonist of the 2010 action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption and a major antagonist in its 2018 prequel Red Dead Redemption II. He is a corrupt government official who captures John Marston's wife and son and forces him to hunt down the members of his former gang.
He was voiced by Jim Bentley.
What Make Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He rationalizes his unscrupulous and hypocritical methods and the corruption in law enforcement as necessary in maintaining order.
- In reality, he cares more about achieving his own personal glory than upholding the law.
- He is condescending and snide toward people in general, mocking not only John and his family with snarky, dark jokes but also calling the citizens of Blackwater "scum".
- He is also racially prejudiced as he calls his informant Nastas a "savage" when first meeting him and assumes he might not speak English.
- He kidnaps John's wife Abigail and son, Jack to force him to catch and kill the members of his former gang.
- After John captures/kills Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella, Ross changes the deal so that John will also have to hunt down Dutch van der Linde, and threatens his and his family's lives if he does not cooperate.
- After John completes his mission, Ross does return his family to him but later violates the bargain by sending an army to his ranch to kill John, despite everything he did for him. John's friend Uncle is also killed in the raid.
- When John is gunned down, Ross lights a cigar in celebration of his death and just shakes his head, disappointingly at John.
- He then receives all the credit and rewards for catching the Van der Linde gang members, and even John is mentioned as one of the outlaws involved.
- He feels no remorse for killing John and blames his death on his outlaw lifestyle only.
- He threatens and tries to kill Jack when the latter confronts him to avenge his father, leading to Ross' own brutal but well-deserved demise.
