The Factory Owner is a minor antagonist in the first season of the South Korean Netflix series Squid Game, only appearing in the episode "Hell". He is an abusive boss in a metalwork factory who makes his employees, including Ali Abdul, work hard with little to no pay, the latter who was forced to pay Squid Game in order to support his wife and son as a result of a workplace accident.

He was portrayed by Kim Seo-ha.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • Even before Ali confronted him, the Factory Owner was seen playing solitaire on his computer during worktime, which already shows his detestable nature by not being actually productive, instead choosing to play games at his own leisure, rather than taking his role as a factory boss seriously.
  • He is a deceitful employer who makes Ali and other employees work with machinery with little to no pay, even showing zero regard to Ali losing two of his fingers as a result of a workplace accident. Even moreso, the Factory Owner never gave Ali worker's compensation and showed zero compassion.
  • He lies to Ali Abdul by telling him that his business isnt doing so good and that the factory is losing profits, yet an envelope containing money was right in front of his desk.
  • He slips the envelope with in his suit as he begins to walk away from Ali, leading Ali to attempt to forcefully grab the envelope and the two engage in a physical confrontation that ends up with the boss crushing his hand in a machine. Although Ali didn't mean for that to happen, his fingers and hand getting crushed is still played for satisfaction.
  • Overall, he is a detestable boss by never paying his workers and he is the reason why Ali was forced to play the Squid Games in order to support his wife and son. And his fingers getting mangled serves as a well-deserved karma for him.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Hate Sink to appear in only one episode of Squid Game due to not making anymore appearances unlike other Squid Game Hate Sinks.
