~ Father Fairest's infamous quote as he reveals the abuse he had given Benjamin Fairest to the public, also his last words. |
Frank Fairest, mostly known as Father Fairest, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside his wife) of the popular fan made mod, Friday Night Funkin': Soft. He is an ex-singer who wants his son, Benjamin Fairest (the Boyfriend of the mod) to follow in his footsteps and is domestically abusive towards him.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- In general, shows no care to anyone except for himself and his wife, who is also just as abusive.
- He frequently abuses his son Benjamin over the fact that he doesn't want to become a singer.
- Despite what some would think, he wants his son to become a singer just so he could live off of his success since he's retired, not because he thinks it would be a better career choice.
- His domestic abuse caused Benjamin to have a demonic hallucination of him, with the said hallucination having blue (or red in the V2 Update) stains on its hands representing Father Fairest's physical abuse to Benjamin.
- He psychologically manipulated Benjamin's best friend, Grace Fairest, into believing she had a future where she would marry his son, leading to a slight, yet brief, strain in their friendship, making him more heartless than he already is.
- While Grace's parents also encouraged her to romantically pursue Benjamin and somewhat sheltered her, they genuinely did not know that he was homosexual and just wanted their daughter to be happy.
- He feigns worrying for his son's well-being, with the background of Preface and Chapter 1 having a missing poster for Benjamin presumably made by Father Fairest himself.
- He insults his son's wishes of wanting to become a painter.
- Despite his surname "Fairest," he is anything but fair, as he attempts to bring Benjamin back home by physical force after he is beaten by him in a singing contest multiple times, despite the fact that he said he would leave him alone if he won.
- He shows homophobic hatred towards Benjamin's boyfriend, Pico, calling him a "street rat" and regards him as a bad influence towards his son, which makes him a hypocrite since he domestically abuses Benjamin while Pico genuinely loves and cares for him.
- He has burnt Benjamin with his cigarette, as evidenced by the cigar burns on his neck and the fact that his hallucination has horns resembling cigarettes and flames on it's body, especially it's mouth.
- He tries to enforce toxic masculinity on Benjamin of what being a "real man" is, saying that a "real" man should be able to solve his own problems by himself.
- He would also be shown to sadistically say to Benjamin in public that if he did what he was told, he wouldn't need to his sweatshirt all the time, while saying that he's "got nothing to hide" and that Benjakin can call himself a "real man", leading Benjamin to finally snap at him and disown him and his wife for good during a mental breakdown.
- When Benjamin suffers an immense mental breakdown in public, the positive emotions of the audience turn into disgust towards Father Fairest and his wife over his abuse of Benjamin.
- While Daddy Dearest has done far worse such as imprisoning innocent souls in video games, Father Fairest is seen as far more hated due to the realism of his actions as an abusive parent. While both his and Daddy Dearest's crimes are standard, Father Fairest is played for 100% seriously, unlike Daddy Dearest.
- Additionally, Daddy Dearest has a degree of compassion and respect that he even shows to Boyfriend, whereas Father Fairest is a downright selfish and cruel individual with no redeeming qualities.
- While it seems that he loves his wife, it's implied by concept sketches for Week 5 that his infatuation is aimed towards her beauty and nothing else, therefore meaning that he sees her as more of an object.
- Unlike many other FNF villains, with the exception of his wife, from various mods and head canons who have sympathetic backgrounds, moral agency issues, or comedic moments, Father Fairest maintains none of these qualities, so nothing about him is entertaining or likable, not even his love for his wife.
Trivia[]
- According to an interview with the mod's creator and former director Tamacoochi, Father Fairest was based on her own father, with his relationship with Benjamin acting as a surrogate for her traumatic experiences with her father.
