Fenrir Greyback is a supporting antagonist in both Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and the main antagonist of the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery side quest 'Hallowe'en Feast'. He is a sadistic and barbaric werewolf and one of Lord Voldemort's followers.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He has always been a horrible man, given that even before becoming a werewolf, he was already a cannibal eating people in his human form.
- As a werewolf, he is a notoriously savage and bloodthirsty beast who will kill/infect as many people as possible, showing sadistic glee in wreaking carnage and bloodshed. He especially enjoys preying on children, transforming those he encounters into werewolves in order to rally against the Wizarding World and conquer the world.
- One of his victims was a five-year-old Remus Lupin, whom he infected as revenge on his father for attempting to have him arrested for killing two Muggle children. This directly caused him to suffer in several diverse ways for his entire life, even decades after being bitten.
- He joined the ranks of Voldemort for more opportunities to turn people into werewolves and rally them to his side. He severely injures Bill Weasley, mauls Lavender Brown, and makes attempts on the lives of Ron Weasley and Neville Longbottom as part of his Death Eater duties and even offers to kill Albus Dumbledore after unsuccessfully urging Draco Malfoy to do it, before Severus Snape kills the Headmaster shortly after. As part of this, he leads the Snatchers in hunting down Muggle-borns, blood traitors, and truants for the Death Eaters. As Voldemort wants to turn the entire world into a chaotic hellscape where people just kill people wherever they get the chance, his willingness to serve such a man just to have his own way is truly vile.
- He outright tries to bite Harry Potter during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, proving he doesn't care if Voldemort loses as long as he wins, given that Voldemort said he must be the one to kill Harry.
- He implies he has sexual tendencies when he was eager to eat Hermione Granger as she was being tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange, with a perverse tone for the barely-legal girl as he talked about the idea. Him lacking standards about killing people as young as Ron and Neville really speak for themselves.
- To put it bluntly, Greyback is the exact type of character who really, really challenges the moral legitimacy of a "if you kill him you will be just like him" code because anyone with half a conscience would absolutely fire the Killing Curse at him the first chance they got.
- There is little to no Evil is Cool vibe to Fenrir Greyback throughout his page time, as he is merely an irredeemable mass murderer who is extremely perverse, barbarous, and nasty.
Trivia[]
- His film version cannot be considered a Hate Sink as he is a plot device with little no to characterization and only the tiniest handful of screen time and everything he does is alongside other Death Eaters anyway. His novel version has several Kick the Dog moments and despite being two-dimensional, still establishes himself as an extremely disgusting creature putting it lightly.
