~ Arkham!Boyle trying to kill Freeze and Nora. |
Ferris Boyle appears in a handful of different continuities within the Batman franchise, serving as the main antagonist in the animated series episode "Heart of Ice" as well as the Arkham Origins DLC "Cold, Cold Heart".
He is the wealthy CEO of Gothcorp who falsely promotes himself and his company in a positive light publicly, and was nominated for Gotham's "Humanitarian Industrialist of the Year" award. However, in reality, Boyle was a ruthless, greedy and heartless man who has no qualms in sacrificing innocent lives for the sake of profit.
He was voiced by Mark Hamill in the DCAU, and by Stephen Tobolowsky in Arkham Origins.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- He tried to kill Dr. Victor Fries and his sleeping, deathly ill wife Nora just to save company money (when he was already $3,000,000 in debt), kicking the former into a bunch of cryogenic chemicals after a squabble with the guards. Victor would never have become the vengeful Mr. Freeze to begin with if it wasn't for Boyle's actions.
- Although he acts like a charitable businessman in public, that's simply just a facade to cover his true sociopathy. During a private conversation with Bruce Wayne in the animated series, he even calls it "great PR" and his own employees "wage slaves".
- He cowardly begs for help/mercy when he's up against Freeze alone.
Arkham Origins[]
- He offered to help Victor cure Nora's illness in exchange for building a bunch of cryoweapons, and then tried to murder them both without fulfilling his end of the bargain. Worse still, two guards died as a direct result of the ensuing fight.
- He pathetically claims that what happened to Freeze was an accident when being confront ed by Batman.
- He tries to kill Batman by freezing him right after he saves his life in order to tie up loose ends, showing how ungrateful he is.
- He's a sadist, beating Freeze near death while also trying to keep him alive just long enough to watch a still-sick Nora slowly die from thawing out of cryosleep. Thankfully, Batman saves them both in the nick of time.
- Overall, lacks the cool or sympathetic qualities of other villains in the Arkhamverse and is depicted as a cowardly sociopath that will gladly ruin lives for his own benefit.
