Hurts, don't it? That's your blood freezing in your veins. Now you see what keeps everyone in my ship in line. The chains, well, they're really just for show.
~ Finnegrin after using Veinus Frigardis on Rayla, revealing that he used it on his crew as well so they would remain subservient to him.

Finnegrin is a supporting antagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He was the pirate lord of Scumport, and the captain of Sea Legs, who wanted to force Callum to do dark magic for him in order to kill Domina Profundis and rule over the oceans. He was killed by Elmer after he had enough of his abuse.

He was voiced by Tariq Leslie.

What Makes him a Hate Sink?[]

  • Unlike almost all villains in The Dragon Prince, Finnegrin lacks any complex qualities, and is an abusive boss towards his crew, with him being completely unsympathetic.
  • His reasons for wanting Domina Profundis dead are selfish, as while she killed his crab Shelley, he isn't primarily motivated to avenge her death but instead take over the ocean, and even if he did, he brought its death on himself, as he challanged Domina to prove himself superior over the archdragon.
  • He took over Scumport, and turned it into a place where pirates and thieves made deals and selled items.
  • At some point in his life, Finnegrin hired a being named Elmer, whom he verbally abused and started to call him Deadwood.
  • He used Veinus Frigardis on multiple people and forced them to serve him.
  • He flips his coin to decide to what to do with his prisoner. If it's heads, he'll have them drowned. If it's tails, he'll put them in enough misery that they'll wish it was heads.
  • When a Sunfire Elf named Darys challanged him, Finnegrin had him beaten to a pulp.
  • He tried to convince Ezran into giving him his pet glow toad Bait, and even made him a deal where Finnegrin would cut Bait in half and he would choose which half he would take.
  • He taunted Callum over Nyx betraying him and the rest of Team Zym to save herself.
  • He had Elmer torture Callum by using sea anemones on him for refusing to make a dark magic spell for him.
  • He sadistically tried to force Callum to choose which of his friends would have his hands cut off as revenge for Ezran stealing his infant glow toads.
  • When Rayla tried to attack him, Finnegrin used Ventis Frigardis on her, which lead to her falling to the ground in pain, and then taunting Callum by telling him that he used it on his crew and the chackles he uses on them were "really just for show".
  • After Callum punched him, he decided to have Rayla eaten by a sea leviathan out of spite, and refused to change his mind even after Callum told him how to create a dark magic spell capable of killing Domina Profundis.
  • When Callum freed himself and saved Rayla, Finnegrin tried to use Veinus Frigardis on him.
  • As pointed out by Callum, while he speaks of wanting freedom, what Finnegrin truly wants is to rule over the ocean, and he fears not having control over everything.
  • After his attempt to use Veinus Frigardis failed, Finnegrin had Elmer choke Callum to death.
  • When Soren tried to convince Elmer to stop obeying Finnegrin, the latter had Soren beaten up, while also mocking Elmer by calling his face one that only a carpenter could love.
  • After Elmer defied him, he tried to stab him in the arm, yelling that he owned him, before being thrown to a sea leviathan.
  • Despite dying, Finnegrin forcing Callum to use dark magic caused him to suffer from PTSD even weeks after it had happened.
  • Both him being punched by Callum and him being killed by Elmer are portrayed as pretty catharstic moments ans are played for satisfaction.
  • He is so despicable that he is the first and, so far, the only Dragon Prince villain who made Callum genuinely furious (who is generally a kind and optimistic kid).
