- NOTE: This article is about the version of Francis Parker Yockey who won the 1972 election, as he otherwise has little characterization.
“ | The American organism was born degenerate, the product of the twin diseases of miscegenation and liberalism. One series of numen in particular poisons the American mind: E Pluribus Unum. The Unum has been destroyed by the many. It has been embezzled by the Jews. It has been raped by the Negro. It has been barbarized by the Slav. | „ |
~ Description of the focus titled "The Yockey Presidency." |
Francis Parker Yockey is a character in the Hearts of Iron IV alternate history game mod The New Order: Last Days of Europe. A member of the American National Vanguard within the National Progressive Pact (NPP), Yockey is one of the candidates in the 1972 United States presidential election, and thus a potential President of the United States. He is the only potential president representing National Socialism (Nazism), and his supporters are on the fringes of the American political spectrum.
This article covers the version of Yockey that succeeded in getting elected president.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- In-universe, Yockey is one of the most loathed politicians in the United States. If he wins the presidential election, his inaguration will have few attendees aside from his brownshirts and a deligation from Nazi Germany. The inaguration event even mentions the judge giving Yockey a "contemptuous look."
- Being seen as loathesomely racist even by hardliner segregationists like George Wallace.
- Inciting racial hatred in his election ads.
- During his inaguration, swearing on Imperium (a book that he wrote) instead of on a religious text.
- The super-event that plays for Yockey's election as president plays The Star-Spangled Banner in a sad minor key with the sounds of police quelling riots in the background. It's accompanied by a quote from Samuel Adams about the death of American liberty, and the text "It Happened Here" at the bottom.
- Destroying the transition letters he gets from his presidential predecessors, showing how petty he is. If his predecessor was Wallace Bennet, then Bennet's letter will be one urging Yockey to redeem himself, which Yockey rejects.
- The Russian fascist Konstantin Rodzaevsky can congratulate Yockey on winning. Yockey will reject the thanks, go on a rant about how Slavic civilization is inferior, and say that the support of Rodzaevsky is less valuable than that of a dog.
- The text of Yockey's focus tree decisions and of the events in his presidency make it clear that he opposes the Constitution and liberty.
- Using the US Treasury to give money to Nazi Germany's intelligence agencies. In many cases, he's actually giving money to the Burgundians (who are more fanatical than the Nazis themselves) instead (even if it's by accident, his real intentions were still evil).
- Worsening the academic base of the country to prevent them from opposing his regime.
- Using voter intimidation to make sure his allies in the NPP don't have any opposition when getting in power.
- Refusing to enforce Civil Rights legislation in the Southern states (since he can't actually overturn the Civil Rights act yet), allowing hate crimes to continue unpunished.
- Allowing the Southern states to be plagued by Ku Klux Klan riots that are implied to cause the deaths of innocents. These riots also reduce construction speed in the Southern states.
- Inciting racial hatred in his presidential speeches and other public statements.
- Passing the SAFE Act, which gives him the power to censor media and news outlets for his benefit and chips away at Americans' freedom of speech.
- If the SAFE Act is vetoed by Congress, going on a petulant rant to his Vice President about how Jews and communists are sabatoging National Socialism in the country.
- Writing and speaking in a very dense and pseudo-intellectual purple prose, filled with long, fancy-sounding words. While not a big deal in-universe, this actually makes things hard for the player out-of-universe, since the player can be confused about what it is that they're even doing when playing as Yockey.
- Not even being an effective leader, since his way of establishing fascism in the USA means sabatoging the institutions that support Constitutional rights and freedoms. In-game, this means lower stability and production capacity; for example the focus "The Bearers of the Flame" deceases nationwide stability by 5%, decreases construction speed in Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama by 30%, and increases supply consumption in all states by 20%.
- Being worse than any other potential president. Compare with the other two "bad" presidents: George Wallace has the ability to redeem himself, and Gus Hall is a well-intentioned extremist. Yockey has neither of these redeeming qualities.
Trivia[]
- The developers of The New Order: Last Days of Europe have outright stated that Francis Parker Yockey is the worst potential US President in the mod.
