What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- While it's confirmed that he had a wife and children, nothing implies that he cares about them.
Pre-Arkham Asylum[]
- Even before he decided to aid the Joker, he was an arrogant and cocky man who believed that he was the best guard in the asylum, even though he abused the patients and drank on the job regularly. Itâs also mentioned that Boles was very perverted to the female staff (despite having a wife), as noted by Sarah Cassidy and Gretchen Whistler.
- Additionally, even before his betrayal, he was disliked by his fellow staff members.
- In Batman Arkham Shadow he is shown beating up a prisoner just because he stepped over the line without meaning to.
- Itâs somewhat implied that he caused the fire at Blackgate Prison that led to the inmates being temporarily sent to Arkham Asylum, which by extension helped the Joker take over the asylum, showing that also even before aiding the Joker, he was a destructive arson.
- Although not confirmed, it is possible he also assisted Scarecrow on Joker's orders by releasing him from his cell also for short periods of time and helping him with his hideout in the elevator shaft in Intensive Treatment, where Scarecrow had security monitors, asylum blueprints and supplies for his Fear Toxin, which he prepared specifically for Batman in anticipation for Joker's future takeover of the asylum.
- He became Jokerâs inside man at the asylum and let him out of his cell to torture Jason Todd, thus leading to the events in Arkham Knight.
Batman: Arkham Asylum[]
- He helps the Joker take over Arkham Asylum, knowing full well that he is putting everyone who works there in extreme danger.
- He murders some of his fellow guards personally, not caring that some of them had families.
- He helps the Joker capture Commissioner Gordon.
- While the Joker decides to kill him once he figures that he is no longer useful to him, not only do the other guards understandably do not feel sorry for him, Boles completely deserved it, big time.
- It's implied that even the Joker himself didn't liked him, either.
- Even after his death, because of him, over hundreds of staff were killed gruesomely by the Joker's hands.
Trivia[]
- Itâs implied that he caused the fire at Blackgate Prison that led to the inmates being temporarily sent to Arkham Asylum, which by extension helped the Joker take over the asylum.
