~ Sanchez threatening Bond before moving him down the cocaine grinder. |
Franz Sanchez is the main antagonist of the 1989 action-thriller film Licence to Kill, the 16th official installment of the entire James Bond series, and the last installment featuring Timothy Dalton as James Bond.
He is a Spanish drug-lord, responsible for the maiming of Felix Leiter and the murder of his wife whom James Bond sets out to avenge. He is accustomed to loyalty by showing respect for anyone as the latter respects back, this ultimately changed for his worst when Bond used this idea unknowingly against him, nor treat anyone with such in the end.
He is portrayed by Robert Davi.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He is extremely abusive to his girlfriend Lupe Lamora, whipping her with a stingray and ordering Dario to cut out her boyfriend's heart out when he finds her cheating on him.
- Feeds Felix Leiter to a shark and takes great enjoyment out of witnessing it and orders his henchmen to kill his wife.
- While he seems to care for his men, in reality it's merely a façade and will immediately turn on them if he suspects that one may betray him, he shows this many times throughout the film
- After Bond, with the help of Pam Bouvier and Q, plants 5 million dollars on board the Wavekrest, believing that Milton Krest used that money to hire a hit-man to kill him, Franz gives him an extremely brutal death by throwing him into a decompression chamber and hacking the valve with an axe, causing Krest's head to explode.
- Has Colonel Heller impaled with a forklift for stealing the stinger missiles from him.
- Guns down Truman-Lodge just because he annoyed him.
- When Bond's cover is blown, first time he gets his henchmen Dario to throw him into a cocaine grinder, which is backfired when Pam Bouvier distracts him and Bond pulls him into the grinder instead.
- While his death by being set ablaze by Bond and being blown up by a tanker is extremely brutal, it is well deserved considering how brutally he killed his own men.
- While he frequently is very charismatic to the point where some fans see him as oddly likable, this façade is unveiled later on when he is shown to be extremely cruel to anyone who crosses him, subverting an 'evil is cool he may have'.
