King Fritz is the posthumous overarching antagonist of the anime/manga series Attack on Titan. He was the King of the tribe of Eldia, later Eldian Empire, from at least roughly 2,000 years before the events of the story. He married the slave Ymir as a "reward" for offering him her power of the Titans. After using Ymir to crush his enemy, expand his tribe and making it prosper into a nation, and gain more power for himself, Fritz then had their daughters eat her corpse when she died after thirteen years of war against the Marleyan Empire. This started the 1,900 years long age of Titan domination and the supremacist customs of Eldia, causing the events of the series.
He is voiced by Kenny James in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Before rising to power, he was a ruthless barbarian who burned and conquered villages, enslaving survivors and cutting out their tongues. Said slavery was awful as people would lose their sense of identity. He would even go as far as threaten to kill every single one of his slaves because one of them freed a pig. Upon finding out that it was Ymir, he mockingly sent her to be hunted down for sport. When Ymir discovered the power of the Titans, Fritz used her to conquer enemy nations such as Marley, spreading his dominance across the entire world and taking countless innocent lives, while enslaving the Marleyans he conquered.
- As a "reward" for Ymir's contributions to his new empire, Fritz forced Ymir to become his concubine and bear his children, effectively making her a sex slave, despite the fact that she was decades younger than Fritz and was a child back then.
- He is horribly abusive and uncaring towards Ymir, despite her loyalty and undeserved love towards him, as he would instead show interest in his other concubines. He is so ungrateful for that even when she jumped in front of him to stop a spear from hitting him, instead of thanking her or helping her, he rudely told her to get up, stating that she still had to serve him as his slave and it was her only purpose in life.
- He also is horrible to his and Ymir's three daughters - Maria, Rose, and Sina - as he would force them to eat the remains of their mother to ensure that Ymir's power would not go lost and continue to conquer and rule the world even after he died.
- Thanks to his tyrannical rule and having his daughters pass on his legacy, he is indirectly responsible for every horrific event throughout history, as Eldia would wipe out entire cultures and force them into slavery and mass rape. These actions were so awful that the 145th king, Karl Fritz, named his people's sins irredeemable.
- Overall, he has no redeeming qualities or good goals whatsoever, being a narcissistic and power hungry tyrant who will do anything to fill his megalomania.
- He lived his entire life being as Eldia's King until he died of natural causes, filled with satisfaction, making him a karma houdini.
- He represents everything the main protagonist, Eren Yeager, hates about the world, treating people like nothing, stealing their freedoms, and making them his slaves for the sake of his own ego.
Trivia[]
- Him and his Attack on Titan: Exodus counterpart are the only two versions of Fritz that are Hate Sinks.
