Fumiko Mifune is a supporting antagonist in the manga series Chainsaw Man. Introduced in the Chainsaw Man Church arc, she is a Public Safety Devil Hunter who was tasked by Hirofumi Yoshida with "protecting" Denji aka Chainsaw Man. However, as the series progresses, Fumiko begins to show that she is actually very, very terrible at her job.
Why is She A Hate Sink?[]
- She sexually assaults Denji by grabbing his crotch in her introductory chapter. Worse being that she also had the tendency of spying on him even when he was in the restroom. This is only made further deplorable due to the fact she is 22-years-old. She has forced him to do other weird things for her own sick amusement as well.
- She is absolutely useless at her job as a Devil Hunter and "bodyguard." When Denji gets jumped, she instead continues singing karaoke. She escalates the situation by poorly explaining to another Devil Hunter forcing Quanxi to intercede; she has to be saved constantly; is nearly killed by Nayuta, etc.
- Fumiko ultimately backstabs Denji and Nayuta when an angry mob arises, abandoning them to the mob and Barem. To add insult to injury, when Nayuta tries to appeal to her compassion by reminding her that her and Denji's family were inside the burning apartment (and likely killed), Fumiko dryly berates her over being saddened over her pets dying. This is especially jarring because in an earlier chapter, she claimed that she sympathizes with Denji's plight despite losing both her parents.
- After Denji was in a coma for a week, she asked Yoshida if she could take some of his hair or nails for her collection because his body will belong to the Japanese state, which shows her sociopathy and lack of empathy.
- In chapter 174, during her meeting with members of the government to discuss the ongoing situation with Chainsaw Man, she was willing to allow the sacrifice of 10,000 children with Japanese Citizenship between the ages of infancy and nine to the Aging Devil (a Primal Devil) in order for it to be swallowed by Chainsaw Man and eagerly called her bosses when given the go ahead by the former Minister of Finance, showing that she's not above allowing the death of children.
- Her backstory is more than likely fabricated so that Fumiko could get on Denji's good side for her own benefits.
- In the volume 17 extra, Fumiko treats Denji as if he’s a dog and not a human being, Denji asks if Fumiko minds splitting her lunch with him, Fumiko throws her food on the ground for Denji to eat it off the floor like a dog would.
