Future Zamasu is the secondary antagonist of the Future Trunks arc in Dragon Ball Super. He was a Kai and the apprentice of Gowasu in Universe 10 before joining his original timeline counterpart, Goku Black, and helping him in his Zero Mortals plan.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
Both versions[]
- Like his original counterpart, he was originally a well-meaning Kai concerned about the gods not doing enough to help mortals but eventually gave into his worse impulses and believed that all mortals are inherently flawed beings that should not exist.
- He was hypocritical and refused to believe that there was anything wrong with him or his way of thinking. Like Goku Black, he saw himself as perfect and the only god the multiverse needs.
- The only reason he was able to get along with Goku Black is because they are both the same person, even if from alternate timelines. Thus, their relationship only highlights how narcissistic Zamasu is.
- Alongside Goku Black, unlike other Dragon Ball villains, he has no excuse of a tragic past or being born, raised or made evil but instead became a hypocritical, delusional narcissist out of his own free choice.
Anime[]
- He smiled and openly mocked Goku when telling him the truth of what happened to him and his family the day Goku Black came into existence. He enjoyed seeing Goku in anguish after telling him that Goku Black killed him and his wife and son, Chi Chi and Goten.
- He and Goku Black blame Future Trunks for everything they did and even called him a "sinner", when they themselves are the real sinners, again highlighting the hypocrisy of both.
- When Bulma distracted him by pretending to flirt with him, he beat her to near death offscreen.
- Despite his cool demeanor and portrayal, that doesn't overshadow how despicable his hypocrisy and crimes are and they only highlight how arrogant and conceited he is.
Manga[]
- He completely lacks the cool demeanor and portrayal of his anime counterpart, being much more arrogant and losing his temper when things don't go his way.
- Goku (not mockingly, but rather earnestly) points out that Future Zamasu alone is far weaker than Trunks and wouldn't even require his and Vegeta's intervention if not for his immortality and Goku Black. This sets him off so much that, even after becoming Fused Zamasu, he still feels the need to rub the comment in Goku's face. "Who's weaker than Trunks now!?"
- Unlike in the anime where he and Goku Black had perfect teamwork, he and Goku Black in the manga never fight together and suffer infighting the moment Goku and Vegeta overwhelm them. Zamasu even seems to look down on Goku Black for abandoning his godly body for power.
- As Fused Zamasu, in an act of dishonor he uses Future Mai as a shield to avoid being destroyed by Goku's Hakai.
- He and Goku Black explicitly plan to continue their rampage beyond Future Trunks' timeline, intending to repeat the process with all of the other timelines.
